    Hello, my friends!

I was inspired to write to you today. I went to see my doctor for a physical, and she said I should reach out to friends online, like the friends on this forum, and share my experiences as a career woman and someone who wants to go back to graduate school.

I’m a high school English teacher, and my job gets really stressful. I also suffer from terrible anxiety and depression, so some days are harder than others. My doctor mentioned that self-care is super important, otherwise I won’t be any good for my students. For my self-care, I love to read or zone out and watch Family Guy. :p

How do you take care of yourself? Any advice for self-care as I pursue my career and graduate school? Thank you so much! I hope you all have a nice weekend. :emoji_heart:

One of the things I discovered was preventative cardiology. It's terrific. Why wait until a major event to begin taking care of your cardiovascular system? Since then I've lost 40 pounds (now 215 on a 5'11" frame) and have kept track of an aortic aneurysm that is currently non-threatening, but could change.

The other thing I did was ditch my organization-based career for an independent consultancy. I work a lot less and get paid about the same. I don't have to run someone else's bureaucracy, either. I just give the best I have to my clients and bill them accordingly. It's great.

I’m so glad you’re taking care of your health! I’ve started going to the gym to keep moving. It’s been helping a lot with my anxiety. :)
