Ouch, a DEAC university is closing. Oh wells, another one bites the dust... From their website, they're transferring students to a competing school - American College of Health Sciences. I wonder why they closed and not sold their programs, they could have sold it off to ACHS and ACHS would have a Doctorate program, even though it's DEAC, it's still recognized. Oh no, Hawthorn was one of those still offering "Doctor of Science" degrees.... I hate the abuse of PhD as lots of those guys have no philosophy sense at all.

They seem like a solid nutrition school the only problem is they are not regionally accredited I know my state has certain requirements to become a licensed nutritionist.

They were unaccredited for some time. They mentioned financial issues as a reason for closing. Ironically, it may have been accreditation and the cost of maintaining it that ultimately did them in.

ACEND accreditation is typically required, but I think Hawthorn was more focused on alternative and complementary medicine.

Perhaps I am confused. The PhD doesn't teach philosophy, nor is philosophy particularly involved in the PhD process.

Also, the DSc designation is quite common throughout the world and is often awarded as a scholarly degree equal to the PhD.

DEAC accreditation isn't particularly expensive. But it is time-consuming and burdensome.

Hi Rich, you are correct. I was joking about the names of the titles. Further, DSc in some commonwealth countries is considered a higher doctorate than PhD.

I HATE it when I miss sarcasm because I employ it all the time.

Thanks for the reminder about the DSc in Commonwealth countries. Quite right, that.

True. When I wrote that I was saying it in relation to the number of students they had, I just didn't want to put it that, and thinking about it now what I did write was still kind of mean.

I'm sure they provided a fine education and I wish them all the best.
