I have an employee using a degree from Hartford University. Anyone ever hear of this one?

Connecticut has the University of Hartford:
    http://www.hartford.edu/

I've never heard of the other place, though.

I would hazard a guess that the employee is a graduate of Instant Degrees[.com] based solely on the fact the institution's address is in London and the employee is from North America.

If the degree is not a requirement of the position, simply let the employee know that since you cannot verify the educational credentials. Since the employee is willing to falsify his educational credentials do you think they have any integrity? It is one thing to make a mistake - nobody is perfect - but to represent one's qualifications indicates the person is of dubious character.

Hartford University claims accreditation from Central States Council on Distance Education. I will leave it to you to determine whether the degree from this institution of higher learning should be recognized as valid for employment purposes with your organization. Merely being unaccredited it not necessarily bad, but being a diploma mill certainly is not good.

The website makes reference to 'Room and Board fees for 2004," which suggests they did not carefully edit the text they swiped from some other school's site.

It also says they are a Vanuatu company.

Ian: "I note they have USA telephone numbers"

John: But their phone number is not in service at this time.

What would be the purpose to include the "-edu" in their URL? That reeks of deception to me.

Thank you everyone for your assistance!

This is extremely disturbing when it happens in your own agency.
