Hi, all! Question: Is it not a HUGE conflict of interest for the President of Harcourt Learning Direct to sit on the Board of Directors for the DETC? Nice job on the discussion board. Too bad about the AED. ------------------ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ H. Piper
This is the norm. If you take a look at who sits on the board of CHEA and on the boards of the regional accrediting orgs, you will see a great many university presidents, administrators, and professors. Remember, this is all self regulation.
True. I was, as you may have guessed, implying that the many questionable practices of Harcourt Learning Direct (such as advertising in magazines that are full of nothing but "get rich quick" schemes) would lead one to wonder why the DETC would shame itself so. ------------------ H. Accrediting agencies like DETC and the regionals are made up of their constituent members. It seems reasonable, even necessary, to have representation from the membership on the board. The accreditor is supposed to serve it members, not the other way around. Rich Douglas
