From the report. "The question of what to do with highly radioactive material accumulated in the 62 years since the country's first reactor started operating remains unsolved."

May I suggest - permanent storage in the Kremlin? :)

Maybe they can help rebuild Ukranian reactors?

Those materials I imagine are mostly spent fuel rods. Not useful for reactors any more, but would likely still be "hot" enough to make a bunch of Mordor's finest bureaucrats glow in the dark, if stored in the Kremlin. That was my thought, anyway.

Yes - anything that would help rebuild Ukrainian reactors would be great. Unfortunately, this nuclear waste isn't useful for that. As far as I know, they can't be recycled. That's the problem.

Moving away from nuclear power when CO2 levels are at their highest in human history is madness. We should be building nuclear power plants as fast as humanly possible.

Stupid, ideologically driven decision that threatens national security. Stupid, stupid, stupid.

Same stupid thing is happening in California for the same stupid ideological reasons.

I was forced to flee to Moscow in 1986 (at the age of 7) and subsequently, for several years, eat awful Soviet canned seaweed as an iodine supplement for years, as a consequence of the Chornobyl disaster. Even I think Germany makes a big mistake.
