Mayor Theresa Kenerly of Hoschton, GA allegedly told a city council member that job candidate Keith Henry was great for the city administrator position, but the city wasn't ready for a black employee. The city is under 4% black. The mayor denies making these comments, but City Councilman Jim Cleveland defended her saying that he doesn't think the city is ready for a black employee. Then, he went on this bizarre tangent about how he has black friends, but interracial marriage makes his blood boil because it goes against his Christian beliefs. Oh, and two city council members, who are Republican just like the mayor is, said that she issued a tearful apology in private, so she's likely lying about not making the comment.

A constituent showed Cleveland a picture of her daughter and son-in-law; they're an interracial couple. Cleveland's response:

This didn't happen in the 80s, 90s, or 2000s; this happened this year. Can you believe that there are weak-minded pushovers who insist that we should tolerate this evil, intolerant nonsense in the name of respecting religion? What a load of crap! Some of these people wouldn't have their jobs if black people had "tolerated" and "respected" this BS during the Civil Rights era.

I think we should look at the good side of racism: It gives sanantone something to whine about. Readers should understand that I treat racism like I treat everything else: with a grain of salt and a sense of humor. I do this for two reasons: first, I have never been the victim of 400 years of racial oppression. Second, I never caused 400 years of racial oppression.

On the other hand, I have been the target of racial oppression, and find black-against-white racism as pervasive as white-against-black. At times, I wonder how I managed not to be a racist. But the answer to that riddle is, as usual, to find an absurd humor in the whole ball of wax.

In a way, I'm amazed that the recent Kate Smith "God Bless America" issue involving the N.Y. Yankees and the Philadelphia Flyers managed not to be mentioned here on DI. That was a hot controversy and, if you haven't heard about it, you are culturally illiterate. Or at least not from NYC or Philly. For that matter, I think there's no excuse for the gay community not condemning Judy Garland and Mickey Rooney for appearing in blackface. Go figure . . .

Besides, everyone knows that "the black race is the people through which the devil has always been able to bring evil unto the earth." (Warren Jeffs, quoted at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_people_and_Mormonism#Fundamentalist_Church_of_Jesus_Christ_of_Latter-Day_Saints.) And if anyone thinks I quote that without my tongue in my cheek, they can go to hell.

By the way, the issue of Mormonism and racism is treated hysterically in The Book of Mormon (the Broadway musical), which concludes that in 1978 God simply "changed His mind about Black people." I guess that's similar to what they concluded at Bob Jones University in the early 70's (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bob_Jones_University#Racial_policies), even though the BJU case was not decided by the Supreme Court until 1983 (a full 21 years after the Civil Rights Act of 1964). Again, go figure . . .

My vote: It's time to stop whining. Racism will always exist - the choice is yours on whether you want to move on from it or continue to be a victim. And one way of being a victim is to continually bring up the issue here at DI, since it has nothing to do with distance education.

I have spoken. Get over it. Um, so there.

Vanity will always exist but that shouldn't stop us from countering diploma mills. On the scale of social problems, almost no one would put diploma mills above racism. (Although hey, vanity is kind of connective tissue between the two.)

The thing about the Internet is that people can't accurately decipher tone. So, as usual, you're wrong about the whining part. I chuckled a little when I read about these hillbillies just like I chuckle at your stupidity. I only post these threads to make people in denial about racism face reality.

Posting about something does not make one a victim. I have a good job and live in a nice neighborhood, so I have done well despite setbacks that have come my way. You, on the other hand, make excuses because of your disorder.

As Jonathan said, this is the off-topic sub-forum. Once again, you have proven how stupid you are.

Steve has wasted decades of his life whining about diploma and degree mills and "outing" people, and he hasn't even made a dent in the problem.

If he doesn't like a topic, he can always take his own advice and move on.
