The Senate Minority Leader is returning to the back benches. Okay, about time, but he has to have been thinking about this move for awhile. Why didn't he let Trump be convicted when he had the chance?

The obvious explanation, is that he thought that there might be a political price to pay if Trump was convicted in the Senate. He thought that Trump was politically finished anyway so, it didn't matter very much anyway.

If that's what he thought, he might be right but Trump's taking his Party down with him.

He was obviously wrong about the "Trump being politically finished" part. He underestimated the power of Trump's Big Lie, as did many pundits and as did I.

I agree that Trump is doing great damage to the Republican party. My opinion is that Fox is also doing great damage to the Republican party. Fox is Trump's willing bullhorn for spreading his lies and they both share responsibility for doing damage to our democracy.
