    Stanford should be above these silly gimmicks. It gives the impression that smart people do not want to to work and live in the Midwest. If it is so concern about the Midwest then it can do something bold like having a satellite campus in the area instead of two token students and insane self-serving publicity. I know absolutely nothing about the Midwest.

    I agree with you to an extent, but maybe they have done some market research and there is some type of shortage of those with top-MBA and related graduate credentials throughout the region (or there is a shortage of those with these credentials in industries that the Stanford MBA is particularly adept at). I don't think there is normally backlash when governments offer tuition payments for students who go into public service so maybe this will turn into something similar.
