Found this on Facebook and Reddit, came across Pimsleur Language Freebie (not 7 day trial)
Strangely, the links provided on BOTH sites were wrong, haha, it defaults to their "freebie trials".
After searching a bit, I found the two sites you need if you wanted more details, their blog & link.

    Blog Link: https://blog.pimsleur.com/2022/06/01/free-ukrainian-course/
    Free Offer: https://www.pimsleur.com/learn-ukrainian/pimsleur-ukrainian-course-free-offer/9781797150284

Side note, anyone know of any schools that can grant credit for these? I was hoping but don't think any will.
For some reason, I think there was a program that had some ACE credit offerings, I think it was Berlitz or something... I can't remember.

I don't think I'll ever actually need to know Ukrainian, but I couldn't help "buying" this free offer!

Оптиміст вивчає українську мову. Песиміст вивчає російську мову.
Optymist vyvchaye ukrayinsʹku movu. Pesymist vyvchaye rosiysʹku movu

Ukrainian: "The optimist learns Ukrainian. The pessimist learns Russian."

I took a year of Ukrainian at night, at a local high school, back around 1989. I would have taken more, but it wasn't offered. I have a transcript somewhere showing that I officially completed Grade 9 Ukrainian in the Ontario curriculum. The Ministry letter with it wished me good luck in my work towards a high school diploma.

    I was 47. I'd finished HS at 16, back in 1959. :)

As a Ukrainian born from Soviet Union, my primary language is Russian.
I studied Ukrainian starting in 2nd grade. And all the years had grade 5 - equivalent to A.
I watch hours of Ukrainian TV per day, in comparison to few hours a week prior to the war.
I find myself struggle at times to understand some individuals on TV, accent or region?

One option to learn any language is to sing it, I learned English songs before understanding what they relay meant.
Beatles were my first English teachers :)

Here's a Ukrainian singer who could help you recapture any lost language skills, Lerner. Anna Sedokova. She's a popular singer - and also a TV presenter.

She must be a good swimmer too - for some reason, there are MANY nice swimsuit pictures of her on the Internet. If this lady couldn't sing a note - I'd just turn the sound down and watch her anyway! :)

You'll find her living in LA these days.

Songs are a great way to learn. Unfortunately, some of the best and catchiest songs tend to have lyrics that one might not want to sing at random or in mixed company. I definitely know people who liked to sing songs in foreign languages until they learned the language enough to find out what the lyrics actually meant!

Я не знаю, хто написав цю пісню, але це точно не Стівен Сондхайм.
YA ne znayu, khto napysav tsyu pisnyu, ale tse tochno ne Stiven Sondkhaym.

(I don't know who wrote that song, but it sure wasn't Stephen Sondheim!) o_O

Always nice to have a song - and a reasonably decent one, at that. Thanks.

Well, I know a group of maybe 300 "Universities" headquartered in Pakistan and cyberspace that will probably grant you credit up to the PhD. level. Ever heard of Axact? :) This scam co. has now changed its name and is still cranking out fake diplomas at the rate of $2,000,000 worth a month.

Getting back to the subject, one can hardly expect legit sources to grant credit for courses in which no exams were administered or documented grades assessed. If you want to earn credit, maybe self-study and this type of course might prepare you for a CLEP or similar. If you're trying this, I'd suggest whatever CLEP-prep etc. materials you can supplement the course with, would be a good idea.

Many schools will grant you transfer credit for an ACTFL exam, but it's unclear if they will let you come in as a non-degree student for that purpose alone.

Whatever you do - DON'T try one of these language courses when you need to cram 6 credits into the next 9 days. Won't work. Try CLEP- Analyzing and Interpreting Literature instead. It's said by some to be a slam-dunk. Some people take it successfully cold - like gazpacho. :)

It's also unclear to me if one of these courses would be sufficient prep. for the ACTFL exam. I know a little something about studying languages and I'm assuming some rigor on the ACTFL exam, so a person would likely need some further prep. The non-credit course would be a start - but not everything.

From what I can tell, it's pretty easy to get at least 3 credits on an ACTFL exam. Apparently, an A1 or A2 level equates to intermediate or mid-intermediate from ACTFL. That's nothing! Do Duolingo for a couple of months and get 3 credits. And Duolingo barely teaches you a language at all.

IIRC, Analyzing and Interpreting Literature is only three credits now. It was my very first CLEP when I was going back to finish my Bachelor's nearly twenty years ago, and it was a real confidence booster to start with it!

Thanks, but the person in question is not me nor a member of this board. Not this time :emoji_wink:

It's actually someone I know, who isn't me in disguise, and is interested in learning Ukrainian. I like Ukranian food, and the Ukranian people, but the language doesn't interest me.
