Bah humbug. It's funny, because my real problem with rankings is that no matter which criteria they use and how they weigh them, the result doesn't really match the concerns of most of the actual individuals who will read them. I do think a "roll your own" ranking would be useful, where each student selects the criteria he or she thinks matters most and how important it is, and then a customized list is returned for that particular student. But that's why ranking countries' systems like this is even more pointless, since it's yet another layer of abstraction away from information students can actually use to reach their own goals....
