Is it possible to get a Federal Stafford Loan for foreign DL study?

If not, do any of you know of any good private loans and/or scholarships for this purpose?

I think the US congress passed a law that extended education loans to DL students a couple of years back, but I can't remember the details. I believe that it is an experimental loan scheme. Yes, it is possible. I believe that the moderators of this board understand the details about this loan.

The school has to apply for an institution number issued by the USDOE. It goes through a clearing process that includes a financial inspection of the school, so a lot schools don't want to do it. A list of schools with numbers is available at the USDOE website.

If you are talking about financial aid in terms of Veteran's Benefits they also approve them for foreign DL programs. This has been posted in a separate thread.

The VA basically deferred to the Dept. of Ed. in the matter of foreign DL schools. A sentence they had at the VA site made me believe that this process is different from what normal (situation) foreign schools must do. I suppose this helped them navigate the mine field of DL (eg. Berne). Berne got Federal Aid approval and so individuals could apply to have a specific programs approved. VA approval is not guarenteeing the quality of the school anymore than the US Dept. of Ed. approval for loans is.
