FEMA courses and Alabama EM certification

In addition to FEMA EMI and NFA Courses online courses they give prorated amounts of credit for other Emergency Disaster Management courses, college courses, military courses, state emergency management training and documented emergency management activated experience. The application process will let you know in what percentage-some are based on how long ago your courses were were taken.

 

Finished the application/documentation and mailed it off today. I calculated my total hours from all the courses I've taken and it came to a little over 1200 hours. That should secure the Advanced Level Cert for me. Thanks for posting this link.

 

Well Friday rolled in with the new mail for the day and included was a letter from the Alabama Association of Emergency Managers. Included in this letter was my congratulations for being awarded the Advanced level certification! I know it's not anything major but I always enjoy getting something new. Just wanted to pass this along.

 

Don't be so quick to dismiss the value in the ALEM certification from AL. I recently interviewed for a position with my state's EM agency. The interviewers spent more time wanting to know more about my state EM certifications in AL and OK than they did my formal education. Having the certification will help you in the workplace. If differentiates you from other folks. Don't forget that more and more people are getting EM and HS degrees these days. Education is great, but state certifications show the ability to apply knowledge in a practical environment.

 

I wasn't trying to be dismissive I'm just a very humble person who tends to downplay my achievements.

I realize that the ALEM Cert will help me stand out around a group with similar backgrounds. I also hope to use this cert as one of the professional certs for the IAEM CEM. I am very happy to have been awarded this cert and will be more than happy to discuss it if I'm ever asked about it.
