    Morning all,

I am presently in the middle east, visting a range of well established, GAAP Universities. Thumbing through the calendar of one such entity, I saw a Business faculty member with a PhD from Century University, New Mexico, USA.

My question was - 'How well is this lecturer performing in the program?'

The response was - 'He is no longer with us - we had to remove him from the program due to a multitude of complaints from the students'.

Barrington along with a list of others were discussed over lunch. 'They operate everywhere', I was told, '...but we just laugh and joke about them. They pose no threat to us'.

    Mmmmmmm

    Cheers,

    George

    Point taken....but!

Ponint taken but I know many people who have earned doctorates from accredited (or their equivalent in other countries) institutions in the US and they are dreadful teachers/lecturers! Having a degree from an unaccredited institution does not make someone a poor teacher.

There are also other factors to take into consideration when looking at teaching in the Middle East, China, South East Asia, etc. By and large, students are 'spoon fed driven'. They want to be given notes and lectures and told which books to read and they will then give it you all back, almost word for word - providing you set examinations that have this format. Questions that include words such as 'describe', 'list', etc they can handle very well. Ask them to 'criticially analyse', 'provide a detailed analysis of' and so forth and the majority 'fall apart' and cannot handle. I've been dealing with such students for over twenty years and still do so. It is to do with their culture and education systems. This s, I suspect, why the Phoenix, Jones and similar institutions (note I call them institutions rather than universities) prosper - they pander to this way of thinking/teaching.

    Just a thought!

I'm sure there was a Harvard professor somewhere who was dismissed for something at sometime. Therefore, Century is as good as Harvard, or so the moronic logic trail goes.
