I was wondering if TRACS receives CHEA approval does that put their school on the same level as RA schools?
I think not; after all, they already have been recognized by the Dept. of Education. More comparable to DETC and other recognized other-than-regional agencies.
Yes i just enrolled in The MDiv/DMin Program at American Bible College and Seminary. I have just found my way to this this forum.I have been looking into various different schools.( My information is under my posting a couple of days ago about American Bible College and Seminary.)
Good luck with it! Looks like a very interesting program. This series of posts brings up a good point. Only RA is RA. Anything else in terms of recognized accreditation should be weighed in terms of it's potential use and your purpose for getting the degree. A couple of examples. If you are getting a Masters in Counseling for the LPC boards. The state I'm in requires that the M.A. be from an R.A. school period. DETC, ATS will not do even if it followed the state's course and internship requirements to the letter. Another example is distance education itself. The US Army accepts R.A., TRACS, and ATS for the M.Div required to become a chaplain. However, the three year M.Div. must have been done in residence. Now, I can imagine that you could bend it if for example with AABC you did the courses at one of their learning centers. I also heard of a chaplain who did most of it D.E. from a R.A. or ATS school and then only completed the last six months or year in residence. My guess is no one questioned it because of the recognized credential. Bottom line is as Dr. Bear and others have suggested, always check & never assume that just because a degree has recognized accreditation it will always meet your needs. North
No. I'd say about halfway there, though. But in each person's individual situation, that could mean the degree earned would be 100% satisfactory, 0%, or somewhere in between. Just be sure what you're doing meets your needs. Rich Douglas
Good points. Another example to what I had above is that I knew a chaplain with an AABC B.A. When he was sent to K-State for an M.A. in Marriage and Family Therapy, K- state made him take additional classes because according to him K State said the B.A. was "unaccredited". I also once contacted a Southern Baptist College to ask if I could transfer credits if I took them from a Southern Baptist Seminary extension program (DETC accredited). They said no because "it was not accredited". North
Robert, will you be completing the M.Div prior to doing the D.Min. or are you still entering it based on your M.Min? Also, keep us posted on how things are going in terms of course content, service, etc. North
ABSC is accepting my MA and my fifth year of my BTH toward a MDiv(Trinity Evangelical Divinity School as well as Grand Rapids Baptist Seminary have take the fifth year of a BTH degree from Grace as a year of Seminary) so ABCS said they would as well.I have to take twelve hours of MDiv classes from ABSC.I am also being given some elective credits in missions for projects I have organized. Then they will allow me to enter the DMin.program.
Good luck Robert! I happen to like TRACS & the educational position they take and wish them the best. As I have never taken a course from ABCS, I will be interested to hear your input. North
