A long time ago? I hardly consider 10 days to be that long ago. Look at some of the posts I dredge up (1,2,3 years old). LOL :D

Basic AOL is free, but they still offer plans at a price.

It's funny because all you get from AOL if you have broadband is the old user interface (including a moment to log on, when you are always online?). It's like an addiction, some folks cannot even fathom using something else! Despite MSN and others basically cloning AOL's UI into their own software people still don't get it. I ask half these people what web browser they use and I get a blank stare.

Believe it or not, lots of people still use dial up...and not just in rural areas. I would say about a third of people over 50 years old still dial in. They complain that the connection is getting slower, when in fact it's the same, the internet in general just doesn't support their connection speed anymore.

Look at this, they offer "back up dial up" for your high speed connection. This is what I'm talking about! They give you NOTHING for 12 bucks a month. It's funny, almost all DSL comes with back-up dial up and NetZero will give you ten hours a month free if your ISP wont. As for the McAfee thing, also a joke.

    Could explain why?
I have used McAfee Total Protection for three years on my Vista PC and Laptop computers and never had a problem (Unlike Norton which really slowed down my previous laptop).

McAfee has an extensive library of known viruses, but is actually one of the weakest when it comes to ridding you of threats overall, and its firewall is a joke. There is MUCH BETTER software out there that is FREE. When I saw MUCH, I mean McAfee is only about 20% as strong as many of the free programs. I use:

    Avira Antivirus
    Adaware
    Comodo Firewall

With the heuristic detection of Comodo, my comp is as secure as can possibly be without turning it off completely.

Also, both Norton and McAfee have free versions of their software that only allow you to scan (if they detect a threat, simply use another program to take care of it).

Thanks for the above. I have to fix a friends PC later this week that is infected with all sorts of viruses etc. These freeware tools will come in handy. You saved me a few hours of research. :)

The McDonald's accreditation scheme isn't that new of a deal. Microsoft has the ability to award graduate diploma out of its research labs in China.

Granted, that's not as funny as McDoctorate.
