I am looking for a distance Ph.D. in History. I would prefer somewhere from the U.K. I am looking into Open University. I am also looking into The University of South Africa, but I am not sure how reputable a degree from UNISA would be. I need a Ph.D. in History. It must be via distance education, and I would prefer dissertation only. Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks!

You should also consider the Australian universities such as Charles Sturt, Southern Queensland, Deakin, etc.

There was a discussion about an Indian university offering Dissertation only PhD and there was a local mentor Dr. Kumar. Do a search to see the thread.

  4. Good point. I would add the University of New England in Australia as well. UNE has a very good history department and has many years experience in distance education. I have been working on a Master of History degree from there but have taken a break this year because I was flooded in January and have enough to cope with. I am looking forward to continuing next year.
