I am interested in any research being done on distance education for subjects that traditionally utilize hands-on or lab activities. Whether it be interactive demonstrations, simulation, or what ever? Any help appreciated. Kim T. Hays
Open University (UK, and now US as well) has done many things in this direction, with home laboratory kits. Their materials have been used by others, as well, on license, such as U of Maryland.
Athabasca has home lab kits for courses in physics, geology. There have also been some attempts at on home labs for chemistry -- though only for elementary courses. See http://www.uis.edu/~trammell/home_lab.htm .
I'm pretty sure that receiving and using a lab kit for a nuclear technology program would be a violation of our Home Owners Association's covenants! Rich Douglas, buying a house and settling in Burke, Virginia.
