The UK just agreed to return Diego Garcia to Mauritius and to facilitate the return of the displaced natives to those islands. I wonder what the consequences will be for the U.S. Navy in the Indian Ocean?

I've never there, having no reason to go, and I'm more than slightly foggy about what that base does for a living. What I do know is that it's important.

Not sure about that. Sovereignty means that Mauritius could terminate the lease.

In theory, but it seems awfully unlikely that a Commonwealth country with good relations with the UK would so thoroughly alienate both the British and the Americans in one fell swoop.

It's a jumping off point for naval and air forces.

    Perhaps. Hasn't worked for Cuba.
