I have searched the internet and I have not been able to locate a school that offers a degree in Security or Security Science. (not computer security)

Security is a a different career than Criminal Justice which is tailored for Law Enforcement or Corrections.

I know that the degree exists. I worked with a person about 15 years ago who had Master of Science in Security Science. I think he received his degree from a school in Ohio.

Does anyone know any schools that offer a degree in this field?

The local college in my area offers 5 courses in Security for a total of 14 semester hours but they do not offer a degree in the field.

    Good afternoon!

There are a number of schools offering degrees in security science or management, and there are some interesting distance learning options. For example, Michigan State University's School of Criminal Justice offers a Master of Science degree in Criminal Justice with a specialization in Security Management. I know you mentioned that you are not looking for a CJ degree, but the Security Management option looks interesting, and the entire program is available online using the Michigan Virtual University Internet-based program. Information is available at http://www.vu.msu.edu/info/cj_ma/.

SUNY-Farmingdale has a Bachelor of Science Program in Security Systems, and information is available at http://www.farmingdale.edu/CollegeCatalog/DeptDegrees/CrimJustDeg.html. According to the SUNY Learning Network web site at http://sln.suny.edu/admin/sln/original.nsf, this degree MAY be available online.

The John Jay College of Criminal Justice at City University New York offers programs in security management at the certificate, associate, and bachelor level. The web site can be found at http://www.jjay.cuny.edu/academic/undergrad/. Be forewarned, however, that this school only has a few distance learning courses. Current DL offerings can be found at http://www.jjay.cuny.edu/news/news/dlweb.html.

Good luck in your search for the right program!

I also see from Bears' Guide that the University of Leicester and the University of Pretoria offer master's in security management. Also, the Technikon of Southern Africa offers a BTECH in Security Management.

    Good afternoon yet again!

If you click on the "Courses" button at the http://www.scottish-knowledge.com web site, you will see distance learning courses in Security Science from Edith Cowan University. They offer the Bachelor of Science (Security), a Graduate or Executive Certificate in Security Management, and a Graduate or Executive Diploma of Science (Security Science).

It appears there are a number of interesting educational opportunities in this field!
