What exactly does the law do, if it doesn't acknowledge the way things ought to be (or, rather, should I say, legislators' opinions of the way things ought to be)?

 

In this case it adheres to traditional norms.

I could never accuse my wife of doing the milkman thing. For one, they don't even deliver milk here--haven't for 50 years--and for another, every last one of those kids have my wavy dirty blonde hair and that funny gap between my big toe and the second toe. Now, if Ted has the wavy hair and the gap thing going, I may have to electronically sock him one!
