    Re: What's next???

It is possible that California Coast U. may reinitiate a DBA and/or a Psy.D program within a year or so. It appears that they are planning to move in this direction but are waiting for DETC approval.

I read in this forum some time ago that NCU accepts more DETC grads than any other school. I guess this is good news for someone looking to get into an affordable online doctoral program.

Actually, I completed my MBA with CCU last July, so they were already accredited. I may consider CCU for a DBA, depending on cost or go for round 3 with NCU depending on my potential financial situation and employer reimbursement. If I do, it will be more for personal achievement and not for a academics opportunity.

    Cost Comparison NCU and CSU

    I. DBA Only
    A. NCU: $475/hr x 51 hrs = $24,225
    B. CSU: $175/hr x 1 hr = $175 [initial class] + $375/hr x 60 hrs = $22,500 [remaining classes] = $22,675 [total]
    C. Le Difference: $24,225 - $22,675 = $1,550
    II. MBA & DBA
    A. NCU: $475/hr x 81 hrs = $38,475
    B. CSU: $240/hr x 36 hrs = $8,640 [MBA]+ $22,675 [DBA] = $31,315 [total]
    C. Le Difference: $38,475 - $31,315 = $7,160

To clear up a little confusion to costs (as I stare uncertainly at my CSU DBA acceptance letter), CSU only charges $1,200 dollars for the four dissertation classes (from the letter):

So 12 of the 61 credits only cost $100 each instead of $375, for a difference of $3,300.

If you decide to go with CSU, when will you start?

Please let us know what you think of the program.

I’m waiting to hear from NCU, and then I have a choice to make.

I am torn because the flexibility of Aspen University program (DETC) is what has allowed me to get back into education, and I honestly feel some loyalty to DETC. So the CSU / NCU decision is going to be really hard for me.

I won't tell you who I favor of the schools that you've mentioned, but when I started my PhD I had to choose between two programs as well.

I've heard good things about CSU and I would love to hear more about the DBA program from a student's perspective.

It's quite historical that CSU is the first DETC accredited school to be approved for the pilot DBA. CSU's DBA is no different than any other regionally accredited doctorate program.

I'm a graduate from CSU times two (BSBA & MBA) and can tell you their academic program(s) were challenging, engaging and rigors.

I've enrolled into Northcentral for a PhD in business administration. I would have continued my doctorate studies at CSU, but feel that I need to diversify my educational background.

I have two BS's and two masters degrees. One of each from RA schools and one of each from a now DETC school. I looked at a PhD from a from a state approved school (CUBT) and considered waiting for a NA school to offer the DBA. Finally, my wife said, "Just do the RA one. It is the same amount of work and since it is DL, more crediability may be added with it being RA. Besides, if you get a DETC one, you will just go back for an RA one!"

The last line was based on my past performance :D

No, this is not correct. The vast majority of schools need RA doctorates to comply with demands of the regional accreditors and the state boards of education. At this time, the anticipated DETC doctorates will have little more utility than California State Approved doctorates. The issue is not legitimacy but certification and equivalence. Applicants with RA doctorates from anywhere are being considered at smaller private schools and in for-profit universities without question, and so they should be.

Don't get me wrong. I'm all for DETC doctorates and the hope they will be equivalent to and accepted just as the RA doctorates in the future but they are not viewed as the same thing at this point. Actually, they don't exist yet...

I totally agree, the RA PhD can open the doors that the DETC can't.

My previous remark was that a DETC and RA PhD from a DL school like NCU would have almost the same utility in the industry but not in academia where the RA is preferred.
