    Hi everyone,

I am in a unique situation and need some insight. I attended an institution while it was going through Middle States Accreditation process. The course work was mostly completed during the candidacy period. Accreditation was granted the month of graduation. I have to defend my Master's degree to my employer. They are refusing to acknowledge the education since the courses were taken before the accreditation was granted. I was very involved in the process and know the amount of work that went into obtaining the accreditation and degree. Does anyone have any suggestions or helpful tips? Thanks

This is a rough spot to be in for sure. Does the institution have any other accreditation (DETC, ACCSC)?

My understanding is that as long as your degree is awarded AFTER the date the institution gains Accredited Status (even provisionally), you have an Accredited degree.

I know in one case in regards to Programmatic Accreditation in Nursing (CCNE) that if a student was enrolled when the formal site visit occurred, not the date the program was formally accredited, the student is considered to have graduated from an accredited program even in their formal graduation date was before the date the program gained accredited status.

Along the same lines as novadar, I'm guessing that you could get a letter from the school or even the accreditor to the effect that your degree is from an accredited institution, etc.

You can also rightfully point out that candidacy at regional accreditors takes a lot more than writing a check. They don't move an applicant to candidacy status without clear signs that accreditation is a likely outcome.
