Hey! Just checking some doctoral programs, this time from 'down south' in Mexico!
Found an interesting link: Online Doctorates in Mexico 2022 | Programs and costs (educacionenlinea.org)

Basically, it's a very small list of example programs offered online and tuition fees.
The bulk of these doctorates are roughly $8-10K USD for 3-4 years of research projects.

One caught my attention, UNADE, this is a Mexican/Spain partnership it seems.
By clicking their link, you get the doctorate list, just shows there are 7 programs.
I requested follow up to a few of their offerings, we'll see what happens next...

Randomly selected Funiber, they have multiple country sites and have similar programs as UNADE.
I checked their doctorate programs and scholarships link as well on their US site instead.

Here's one that's not on their list, they only have 2 online programs (Cultural Management, Educational Systems), interesting offerings though. Link: Virtual University System | University of Guadalajara (udg.mx)

Update: Here's a website for "Data Mexico", lookup of several industries. I randomly did a search of a few universities, clicked them, and it came up! Explorer | Data México (datamexico.org)

About 20 years ago, MIGS a mexican school was one of the few ones that offered PhDs in the US. There was so much criticism back then. Nowwadays we have people pursuing degrees in South Africa, Nicaragua, etc, etc.

These are great opportunities to get education at a lower cost but there is a risk that you end with a PhD that is only good to hang in the wall. I think the Mexican PhD can be a good option to qualify for a license (e.g. Psychology) or to adjunct on the side and maybe some professional opportunities. Thanks for sharing.

I mean that if someone is doing any of these programs for the wrong reason, this can be the case. Many people are naïve and think that they can finish an online PhD from any university and land an academic position or prestigious position. At least in Canada, there is a glut of PhD holders so there are many way more graduates than positions available for graduates at this level. There is a fair demand of adjuncts, part time or sessional lecturers that can benefit from these programs. If I am professional adjunct with little income, I think it is reasonable to do any of these low cost opportunities as long as they come from credible institutions to remain competitive but it is not realistic to think that I will land a tenure track or permanent position with an online PhD from these schools but also one never knows, everything is possible and you might beat the odds but you shouldn't count on this for your investment.
