I am surprised by the amount of input moderators have into discussions on this forum. In other forums I have used, the moderators are seldom heard. They usually just step in to protect the paying sponsors of the site and to lock threads.

I think that a few of us were chosen as moderators due to our level of participation. In my case, it would seem that random comments and jokes counted as participation.

I'm not sure what the pattern is for other forums because this is the only one I frequent. I came here first just to get information but I somehow got sucked in and probably will have a difficult time letting go if/when I decide to quit. I don't really know how the discussion went when I was being considered as a potential moderator, but I do know that I appreciate the ability to give back to the forum that has helped me so much. I might not have ever reached an Associate's Degree if it were not for DegreeInfo. Sometimes, I find myself turning my desk chair and staring at the diploma I have on my wall, amazed that what I once thought was impossible is now a simple staple relegated mostly to the backdrop of my life. I'm in disbelief that I might actually finish a Bachelor's degree. Wow.

I came looking for information and never left. I feel as though I have some valuable information (and some worthless) to share - CLEP experience, unaccredited vs. accreditied schools I graduated from, online vs. in class experience, adjunct experience, etc.

And what was the context of Maniac's quote of Rich Douglas?

Actually, I would tentatively suggest altering the way electoral college electors are determined. I would like to follow the Maine and Nebraska model of assigning electors by congressional district, with the two remaining electors coming from the statewide popular vote.
