I tried doing a search to see if this was discussed before but couldn't find anything. Seems like a brand new "university."

    Dr. Steadman Upham, President
    Claremont University
    [email protected]

    Dear Dr. Upham

I've been writing books, consulting, and doing expert witness work in the area of degree mills and fake universities for nearly thirty years.

One of the most common tactics of the phonies is to take the name of an existing reputable university, in the hope (often realized) of fooling people.

In this regard, I'd like to bring to your attention the fact that a new and totally fake Clarement University has just appeared on the internet, claiming to be in the Seychelles, but with an internet provider in Arizona, and a president who himself has two doctorates, one from a fake school, the other from an unrecognized one. (The discovery was made by a contributor to the very helpful forum at www.degreeinfo.com)

You'll find their site at http://www.claremontedu.org

You'll find my credentials at http://circledance.tripod.com

    Yours sincerely,

John Bear, Ph.D. (from Michigan State University)

Nice catch, AWN. You can tell you have a fresh one when they haven't even had time to get their fake accreditation agency set up.

I wonder if Claremont shares a filing cabinet with Earlscroft?

The President of (the real) Claremont has responded with thanks, saying he has turned the matter over to the university attorneys.

And someone apparently associated with the fake Claremont has sent me an obscene Email.

    Another day at the office.

    The phony Claremont has the following disclaimer, I don't know if they put it up after John contacted the real Claremont (spelling & grammar errors left intact);

"Please note that Claremont International University plc, Seychelles, has no connexion whatsoever with any other institution bearing the name Claremont, including, but not limited to, institutions based in the United States of America".

I don't see any spelling or grammar errors. "Connexion" is a British spelling.

Well, you learn something new every day.

However, I do believe that using all lower-case "plc" is a universal no-no.

Then again, I thought "connexion" was a spelling error, so what do I know?

Perhaps I should record that the first doctorate Dr Bear was referring to here was one from Saint Regis University, which president Kersey no longer lists, and the second doctorate was the one from Knightsbridge.

'connexion' is not a commonly used British spelling - most people I know would put it down as an American spelling!

    some of those sites...

Some of the stuff on 64.39.10.11:

www.Aitedu.org is "African Institute of Technology." Its site (registered march 24, 2004) seems to be remarkably similar to the Saint John University site. Compare these two pages:
    http://www.aitedu.org/accreditation.htm and http://saintjohnuniversity.org/accreditation.htm.
The staff are the same too. (See the staff.htm pages on the sites.)

See this link for information about Michael Clark, the Saint Regis-friendly accreditor mentioned in the above web pages.

We already know about www.saintregisuniversity.com and www.stregisuniversity.com.

www.Thecareerpeople.com is a Career Consultants International site. This is the place that was associated with certification of SRU degrees, possibly of the Georgia teachers. There's been a lot posted about it lately.

www.Thedegree.com lists the "top 20 distance learning programs," placing SRU as number 3.

www.Thedegreefinder.com sends you to Saint Regis when you click on the "Credit for Work Experience, Exams and Prior Learning: Click Here" link.

www.Thedegreefinders.com used to take you straight to SRU automatically, but now it's necessary to click on the first link in the page to get to SRU.

www.Thedegreepeople.com is another Career Consultants International site.

www.Universitymanagementgroup.com is registered to Peter Loughlin, a Saint Regis faculty member. The page is new, having been last modified March 26, 2004. From the site:
This makes it seem like a Saint Regis-friendly evaluator which can absorb SRU credential holders who will no longer use CCI.

I don't know about all of you, but when I start reading about these associations (which are appearing far too often now), my stomach turns and I feel violently ill.

    Exorcism!

StRegisUniversity.com speaks for itself. The CareerPeople.com and TheDegreePeople.com both lead to Career Consultants International (CCI), which is owned by Sheila Danzig. TheDegree.com also has ties to Sheila. The University Management Group, LLC, lists a Clayton, MO address and appears to be a new credential evaluator that caters to an exclusive clientele such as graduates of St. Regis or Claremont University.

TheDegreeFinders.com/ TheDegreeFinder.com Web site offers three links: St. Regis University (Credit for Work Experience, Exams and Prior Learning), Claremont International University (Get Credit for What You Already Know and/or Independent Study), and 25 Best Distant Learning Universities.

As they say, this is just the tip of the iceberg. In addition to the degree mills Ansted University and Knightsbridge University, it seems Claremont International University also has ties to the degree mill St. Regis University and Career Consultants International (CCI), Sheila Danzig’s bogus credential evaluation services entity.

In other words, what we are dealing with here is one big happy family.
