One of the articles mentioned the chief now has 130+ credits, including some graduate courses.

    Bruce,

I assume by your degrees that you are in law enforcement. Do you not have a problem with the manner in which the chief achieved his undergraduate degree. Perhaps he believed that he had done nothing wrong, but if he is intelligent enough to become the chief of police of a major city like Charlotte, NC, then I assume that he knows that you cannot typically get a degree from an institution like VCU by taking 2 courses at the school. I can understand why he did not complete his degree with the University of Phoenix because that would not have been nearly as impressive as a degree from VCU, but the circumstances surrounding how the degree was awarded seems really suspicious at the least. Just curious, from your prospective, why this is not important?

The Chief Superintendent of our local school system is under investigation for the same sort of issue. He worked on his doctorate at several schools (while working in several different cities over a number of years), and eventually was granted an doctorate from Univ of Louisville at which he had taken only one class. An exception was made for him by the head of the department without going through any of the proper channels.

UofL is investigating, and it's quite possible that his degree will be revoked.

And yes, this has made the paper in our large, metro area. So these are real stories with real implications, and not just "non-stories".

Based on what I've read so far and absent other information, no I don't. As I've stated several times, this appears to be a case of someone waiving the residency requirement (and no one willing to come forward now) that 30 credits be taken through VCU. It's a school policy, not a law, and one IMO designed to maximize revenue more than anything else.

Many years ago in these parts, there were rampant rumors that someone was awarded a degree from UMass-Boston without fufilling the academic requirements. The reason you and practically no one else outside Massachusetts knows anything about it is because the person in question is a rich white former Congressman named Joe Kennedy.
