When I read "Florida" and "politics" I had a feeling where this was going.

Sounds like when their preferred candidate wasn't in the shortlist, despite being unqualified, they decided to just re-do the process to make sure he was.

"It’s not clear whether the Palm Bay lawmaker, whose work experience is in casinos, applied."

Aw, go ahead and hire him, FAU. (You will, anyway.) Change the job title from "President" to "Pit Boss."
The grads who don't become Pit Bosses themselves, will at least learn not to draw to an inside straight.

What a charade. Unworthy of any University - or any Governor. This is Capone-era stuff, transferred in from Chicago. Florida needs a new Eliot Ness.

Harvard BA and MBA (so likely intelligent). Business Executive of multi million dollar business enterprise with significant numbers of employees, budget, and need to comply with complex regulations.

The problem is that know-how and success in one area doesn't necessarily translate to another. Rex Tillerson was highly successful and by most accounts competent and reliable. The problem is that he wasn't a diplomat and didn't understand that world. The result was that the State Department had issues under his watch due to unfilled positions and so on (presumably viewing them as a CEO might and not in terms of diplomatic necessity. The learning curve can be steep. You don't know what you don't know (unconscious incompetence).

It is possible that Fine could have been successful with the right team under him (as with US Presidents) but apparently he didn't stack up with other candidates. If I am filling the position I would want someone with a sense of higher education.

I suggest you go and read more articles on this as there is a lot missing from this article and the problem seem to have nothing to do with DeSantis and Fine. There seems to be anomalies in the process of how the committee did the voting and about questions the search committee asked of a sexual nature.

I did a search and can't find anything about questions of a sexual nature. Can you provide a link?

I did find this article about Randy Fine calling a school board member an anti-woman profanity and cutting funding to the Special Olympics because his feelings were hurt: https://www.thedailybeast.com/the-twisted-values-of-randy-fine-ron-desantis-top-anti-disney-attack-dog

I also found this article about the Ethics Commitee finding he misused his office to seek revenge against someome: https://www.bocamag.com/prospective-fau-president-investigated-by-ethics-commission

"The letter also stated that one candidate said a questionnaire asked if his sexual orientation is "queer" and whether he was "male or transgender male," and that another survey asked whether his gender is "male, female or other" and what his "preferred pronouns were.""

That's it? They asked candidates for their demographic information? Consider my pearls clutched.

Being educated doesn't necessarily make you intelligent. There are uneducated people who are intelligent.

And unintelligent people who are educated. Something... something... Trump... Wharton....
