Hello everyone, I have posted many times over the past two years. I started my General Psych program at University of the Rockies back in June 2009 for the career goal of teaching psychology and counseling. I graduated in April 2011 and just finished certification for teaching on ground at University of Phoenix. This is so great because I feel like it will give me the much needed experience for teaching Psych. Apparently there is an alternate certification and process for teaching online, which is also what I want to do, but I have to teach a handful of classes on ground before I can move in the online direction. It seems that UoP will allow an instructor to teach up to two classes on ground at a time, then also online classes in addition. I have so enjoyed working with this great group of people here in Nashville and am looking forward to the process. Next step is teaching a class with a mentor, then if that goes well, I will be officially part of the adjunct faculty.

It has occurred to me that if one wants to teach part-time, that UoP might be all I could manage at one time. Does anyone have any advice about moving forward? I am a school-based therapist during the day and moving towards LMFT licensure here in Tennessee but also love teaching psychology.

If anyone has had experience with this process, I would greatly appreciate any advice. I really want to succeed with them...

You will pick up speed in teaching as you gain experience. After a few semesters you will probably have the time to pick up a few more classes/schools. Congrats on your teaching gig. I know the UoP training is not too easy - I failed it.

And I had such high hopes for you......

I don't know about campus-based classes, but UoP online facilitators can only teach 2 courses at the same time.

I just had too much going on and missed some deadlines. Their system worked - I was not really ready to teach for them.

Just busting your chops.....you're right, it's not easy.

That's funny because I totally missed the first session and had to wait for the next certification training to come around. But you know, if I'm doing two online classes and one ground class, that's quite a load right there with a full time job in addition.

I had the same problem when I went thru the certification to teach supply chain/operations. My first mentor thought I wanted to do things "my way" so I had to go thru the process again. Teaching face to face and online will keep you busy--just keep a good pulse on your schedulers and be willing to do some things on the fly.

    Congrats and welcome aboard!

Just do whatever the mentor tells you with a smile on your face. Once you pass you mentorship you can change things all you want as long as you still meet the basic requirements as stipulated in the course contract and school-specific guidelines.
