There's currently offered a free 30 clock hour, online non-credit Certificate in Value Creation from the Madden Center for Value Creation at the Florida Atlantic University College of Business.

The certificate requires a "total score of 80% or above."

Registration is cohort-based with a current registration deadline August 29, 2023 for the cohort that will run from September 5, 2023 to October 10, 2023.

This is tempting. It overlaps just a little with my current class. Ironically, I am trying to decide if this would create any value for me.

I signed up. It's cohort based, so it would be amusing if the entire 5 September cohort was made up of degreeinfo dot com folks

Oh, man! That'd be the toughest room any professor ever had to face! Could be a career-breaker!

The September 5 cohort started this week. So far, the course seems interesting. I noticed that the prof doing the intro lecture has the same surname as that on the business school.

I think this certificate is just a marketing strategy. This year FAU launched their Center for Value Creation which they named after him, plus it promotes his book on value creation.

I think you're right about the marketing strategy--its a way to attract attention to the center, fine-tune the course, and prime the participants for paid executive education courses.

I also think this, and his other business school centers (Columbia University, George Mason University, etc.) are part of a legacy-building program for his life's work.

If I pass the course on time, I'll have another certificate to hang on my wall of glory.

I got an email today. The current cohort's deadline was extended to the end of December. (This is the cohort that started in September.) They will start a new cohort in mid January. (I'm behind schedule, so I asked them.)

Good to know. I started this then completely forgot about it.

Suppose you have solid credentials like Bachelor's, Masters', Doctorate, and top professional certification. A certificate from Florida Atlantic University would not add anything to the credentials.

Recently, I have adopted this same mindset toward enhancing my curriculum vitae (CV) to bolster my qualifications for consulting opportunities.

Very true. I still think it’s really just marketing for the guy’s book. i don’t remember how far I got, but they must have taken me out of the system for inactivity. When I tried to log back in, it said my username was not found. Oh well

Honestly, I have been an IT Professional for over 20 years. I spent a lot of time and money to earn countless IT Certifications. When I look back, I wish I did not. I could start with the top 3 IT Certifications. Right now, I keep up with CISSP, PMP, and ITIL. I removed over 20 IT certifications that provide no value at this point. For this reason, I disenrolled from Thunderbird School of Management's free Certificate program; if I want a certificate, I need something in Management and Leadership from top-notch schools like Havard, Oxford, Cambridge, MIT, etc.

    That's very few people.

Anyone can benefit from some extra knowledge, or even a refresher if it's nothing new. I'm sure there are plenty of hiring managers who like seeing applicants that continue to learn even after achieving terminal degrees and high level professional certifications.

If only I had the time for this one. :emoji_confused:

The specific certs you might need and maintain will change over time. For example, your PMP is probably not that useful if you work at a call center as I once did. There, training in communication skills, sales skills, etc., is more valuable.

Once you become a manager at a call center though, project management training becomes more useful.

A lot of executive training is targeted at C-level professionals. I don't even have direct reports right now so that wouldn't be super useful to me, so I'm focused on how to become a better individual contributor.

The right training at the right time in your career will look different for everyone and I think lots of people will benefit from this specific training in value creation.

I you're still into this course, the registration is open again, until 20 February 2024. The next cohort starts 21 February 2024. I just signed up again. I hope to finish this time.;)
