The bottome line here is that employers are responsble for their hiring practices, not George W. Bush.

You are absolutely correct mi amigo. But then I must ask you the following question, why make easy for them?

First, it is a pleasure discussing political issues with you. We learn by reason and respect, not argument and contempt.

You pose a very good question. However, there are many situations in life that are easy--drug availability, illicit sex, pornography, term papers and dissertations on the Internet, etc. But, individual responsibility is just that, individual responsibility, and no excuses can be honestly made when one chooses to engage in irresponsibility.

I have to state there is a large Hispanic population where I live. The Mexicans I know and am friends with are very hard working, good and decent people who just want to earn an honest day's pay.

One of my friends, 22 years of age, left a local Mexican resturant, working as a waiter (and an excellent one at that) to open his own restuarant fifty miles away and his is very successful.

The hardest working people I have ever known were blacks and Hispanics. The laziest people I have ever known were whites. Sorry, but these have been my obversations during my life of living in New Orleans (huge black and Hispanic population) and Detroit (huge black and Hispanic population).

    Vaya con Dios!

I think the problem with Carter is that he was too nice. He is the first president i really remember, and have always thought he was a decent man. I am disappointed that he has not follow the tradition of fading into the backgroud after office, but that was his choice...

You obviously don't have any Brazilians in your area. They are like that running skit a few years ago on "Saturday Night Live", about the Jamaican family where each member held 5 or more jobs.

The Brazilians put them to shame. I've never seen a harder-working group of people, and most are just glad to be in the United States. I've seen many of their apartments, where 10 or more of them live in slave-ship sleeping arrangements in a studio apartment (head-to-toe).

They work their butts off, they learn English, and they want to become American citizens. Most are illegal, but since I have no authority to enforce Federal immigration law, that's not my concern (not that I would care, even if I did).

My question is, why would we turn away people like that???

No, I don't. As a matter of fact, Iam not sure I have ever met a Brazilian.

I undersand about turning away people. It's a tough decision. On the one hand, what message do we send if we don't deport illegals? Yet, why deport hard-working illegals who just want a better life, especially when many of our own citizens are such lazy bums?

we have had at least 2 amnesties already....

We have had 2 amnesties already, they don't work. Personally, I think the guest worker plan is a good option. Actually had something like that in this country until 1964. People can come her, work, and then go home and live well on the benefits their hard work has brought them. It is what many of them do now just with the added hassle and danger of sneaking in....
