Just looking for some general info and feedback on Aspen U itself and the format style of their classes. I'm looking at their Ed.D program and have started the application process already. Thanks!

I am in their Ed.D program. The format style is of two types 8 weeks interactive or 10 weeks independent. I never tried the 8 weeks interactive so cannot comment. For the 10 weeks independent, you have the flexibility of finishing it faster and taking the next course. I am taking course by course but you can take a few together. But for me, I feel that course by course is hectic enough. The assignments are all using APA style btw.

Thanks for the feedback. I guess it will take a bit to get used to the APA style insofar as I do not have any high level experience with it.

Here is an excellent tutorial on APA style. It's well organized and it's almost fun. It won't take you that long to go through it and it will cover most of the bases. Developed at Harvard. It doesn't cover everything but does cover the most important factors. APA Exposed

You are both ever so welcome! It was recommended as an APA refresher for NCU and I enjoyed it.

Here is one more good link. This one is from Purdue University. This is not as easy and fun, but the great thing about this resource is the fact that it supplies examples of what an APA paper should look like. For example, say you don't know how to make an APA title page. No problem, go to this site and copy their example. Purdue OWL I believe this site has almost everything APA somewhere in its pages.

I liked taking the 10 week independent courses one at a time.

You are facing the same situation I had when I first signed up. But no worries, the compulsory first course on the Ed.D is about Research Methods, this is the course for the instructor to brush up your APA formating.

Thanks for your insights and I am looking forward to getting started, but first....I'must get ready to sail on the Carnival Legend this morning and will be sailing to the Western Caribbean for the next week.

That looks like the better (preferred) option - Thanks!

I too am considering Aspen's Ed.D. program. (My primary reason is cost.) I realized that I still owe a ton for my MIT degree and can't afford to drop 50k+ right now for some other schools that I'd prefer to go to. (Not to mention two of my three kids are rapidly approaching college age.)

Now I'm just deciding if a DETC doctorate will fulfill my needs for the next 15 years or so. (At which point I might afford a different school.) For now it would be for corporate usage.

The new promotional rates at $100/credit hour even for doctorate level credits makes Aspen one of the most affordable Ed.D around. The Ivy League's fees are scary.

I saw that, it's enough of a price discount that I'd consider it.

I'd consider a local school if I didn't travel for a living (making that impossible for me.)

I must say this doctorate sounds very appealing. My primary concern is the utility of an Ed.D that is NA versus RA accredited!

I'd be telling an untruth if I said that it wasn't also a major concern of mine as well.

Just back from the cruise :( but I have a quick follow up question(s)...Is it all writing assignments and have you ever completed a course before the 10-week limit?

    Thanks!

Normally what I do is to get the textbook and read it first before signing up. I do the assignments immediately upon receiving the Moodle link. This allows my procrastination nature not to take root. Normally I finished 1 assignment a week and have about 1 or 2 weeks before the limit is up.

All are writing assignments and basically the assignments cover the entire text book. I will suggest getting the textbook first and have a headstart or else it is going to be quite a packed schedule considering that each assignment typically take me 10-20 pages.
