Where do you go for the proctored exams? My home school is currently not in session for me but there are other people who could proctor it for me, are there any specific requirements? Also is there homework and quizzes or just a final? You say its easy but are you a math wiz lol, I really suck a math but need this class to graduate!!

I had the exams proctored at a local university. I can't remember the exact requirements for choosing a proctor, but you can always call them and they will let you know if your choices are acceptable.

There was homework due for each chapter and you had to turn one in and wait for it to be graded prior to moving on to the next one. But the teacher was pretty cool and would usually let you turn in a couple chapters at a time. There was only one final and no quizzes. At the time, this was my first attempt at calculus and it served as a good primer. I retook calculus later it was made easier by this course. If you have trouble reading math books and teaching yourself, it could be a pain. But these days you always have Khan Academy to help you.

Is the Calculus 1 & 2 you are referring to at Berkeley also called 16A & 16B or is it the
    1A & 1B? I also need 1 & 2 for graduate school.

    Calculus X1A : Equivalent to Calculus 1
Calculus X1B : Equivalent to Calculus 2, except they don't teach polar coordinates and instead go into some differential equations.

  5. It depends upon what your university will accept. Our local librarian will proctor them for free, with enough notice. The local community college charges $25.

Thanks for the information above. I just need the calculus course to fulfill my company's education requirement, and they will pay for the course. However, I need to get an A in the course because of the strict grade requirements (i know its quite silly of my company!). I have decent Algebra knowledge but not much in Calculus, approximately what level of effort are we looking at for the UC Berkeley extension class with Merlin Miller to receive an A?

I would really appreciate any information / insight on the class as I am looking to enroll within the next week. Thanks a lot in advance!!

Did you end up taking the class with Merlin Miller? I am thinking of doing the Calculus class with him this summer and am in the same boat as you, i.e. need an A in the class and company paying for class.

If you can provide any insight, that would be wonderful! Thanks!

I know I'm figuring this out like three years late, but I thought it was appropriate that a thread called "Calculus" was started by someone named "moonspin".

I would like to know this as well. I was thinking of trying out UC Berkeley Extension's Calculus.

I took the Distance Calculus course a few years ago and it was awesome - https://www.distancecalculus.com. They are at a new university now - Roger Williams University. I am sure it is the same as before. The problem with these extension and edX and Coursera type courses is the academic credits - nothing beats these courses on a real transcript! Mine got transferred without a hitch!

Ouch, those are expensive classes. If I ever recommend Calculus I or II, it would be at a community college that has an online option. Anything over $100/credit is expensive, as these community college options will transfer to any university. For higher level math above the Calculus II, there may be other 4 year colleges/universities that have a lower cost at say $200/credit and completely online.
