Yes, you must be referring to my alma mater (especially the drug part).
    UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA - BERKELEY

Ah yes, Berkeley… so many fuzzy memories. If I recall correctly, the largest fraternity on campus (not officially sanctioned by UC, but sanctioned by many others, including a couple of Harvard psychology professors) was DROPPA KAPPA ACID. :D :D :D

    :D Trick question.

    Pixote?

Pixote? What, precisely, do you mean by Pixote?

The movie. Although it may seem a tenuous connection, it seemed to match up with the criteria of your trivia question.

I fail to see the connection. And this is in spite of the fact that I am familiar with the film and actually have a personal connection to it.

While we were all still in high school, I introduced the stepdaughter of the director of the film (Hector Babenco, who also directed Kiss of the Spider Woman, Ironweed, and At Play in the Fields of the Lord) to her future husband (my best friend since the third grade, throughout high school, and who later became my roommate in college). In fact, she is credited as the Art Director on most of his films, is still happily married to my friend (who ended up doing a stint as a dean at our old alma mater), and is currently living in Marin County, CA with their two beautiful kids.

    What’s the connection you see?

Rich: "Roger C. Carmel played Harry Mudd. Carmel died later of a drug overdose. "

John: Are you sure it wasn't Ted Raimi.

There were lots of Mudds who gave big bucks to southern California schools. The USC campus, for instance has Mudd Hall, donated by Seeley Wintersmith Mudd, Della Mudd and Seeley Greenleaf Mudd. I remember vividly that when our high school honor society toured the USC campus, our student guide informed us that Seeley Wintersmith was known as "Bud." I hope this is true.

Notice I didn't say the degrees were mine, only that if one listed the degrees on a resume/CV as being from Mills College, one could have some fun (pun) with the term "Mills."

Well...your description "...specializes in con artistry, pimping, and illegal drug smuggling" and the name Rio reminded me of Pixote. Hondo can be translated as deep or depth I believe, and then we have college. :D
    Anyway...yeah, I guess I was a little tired.

    Dear all,

Anybody know about GOLDEN STATE UNIVERSITY ?

Which one? The one that moved to Hawaii after California eliminated the unregulated State Authorized category? Or the more recent fake one? (The one with the Nevada address that claims fake accreditation and some unidentified authorization to award degrees?)

    Administrative Contact:
    K E
    Golden State University
    1802 , N.Carson Street , Suite 212-2607
    Carson City, NV 89701
    UNITED STATES

P.S.: Nevada is the Silver State. California is the Golden State.

As a former Roadrunner, I resent that.

ps. My high school was approved by the State of California, and I would consider it worthless.

So if Silicon Valley became the 51st, would it be the Solid State?

No, since they make a lot of semi-conductors it would be a semi-solid state. Or mush or slush.

Right now it would be called the "Unemployment State"
