    TEKMAN Semper Fi!

It seems she is an irresponsible individual who racks up load of student loan debts with a Bachelor and two Master degrees without a solid professional experience. Honestly, based on her story; she has been living a a lavish lifestyle that even 6-figure American income earners cannot afford traveling globally. I bet she spends lot of time advocating for student loan debt forgiveness. :D

Exactly. Two master's degrees and her resume lists "dog-walker." She may owe $100,000 but wherever she goes, she always has her latte! By the time she's old, that $100K will probably swell to $400-500K with interest. If she thinks it's fun to live in a Tesla, maybe she should let Elon Musk know. And she's not worried... when money dries up completely, there's always Mommy and Daddy.

That's where it all started. You indulge a 3-4 year-old's every whim -- it's not love. THIS is what you get! The parents are her safety net. And when they die -- she gets the house. And then - maybe the Student Loan folks put a lien on it. This looks like a long drawn-out, inexorable disaster - a VERY depressing movie script. NO stars. And no Oscar for her, either.

I disagree. I don't see convincing evidence she was irresponsible.

Many of us here are extreme couponers of higher education. But we can't expect everyone or even expect most people to be. At least not yet!

Her decisions seem well within the normal range for a reasonable young adult from Kalamazoo
    • with enough academic potential and achievement to succeed in college and grad school,
    • who chose to go to college and grad school full-time away from home, which are very normal decisions, and
    • without enough family wealth not to do so without loans.
She chose credible private universities. She completed college apparently in about 3.5 years, per a LinkedIn that must be her's.

She succeeded in a first master's degree and chose to take a second master's degree, it seems with transfer credit or similar acceleration, in a related field.

The second master's was in a large foreign city, where she rented an apartment. The apartment was in a prime location but small, for 950 EUR, about 1050 USD a month, competitive with grad student apartments in many US cities. (You probably wouldn't advise a young woman foreign student, who had choice in the matter, to choose the lowest-cost neighbourhood in Paris.)

It isn't unreasonable to think her first master's in international peace and conflict resolution and her second master's in international relations and diplomacy will support each other in her launching a career.

Per that LinkedIn, besides dog-walker she's also worked as a graduate assistant, tutor, hospitality server and line manager, and camp counselor.

Johann refers to a story about a woman who quit her job to live in a Tesla, but that's a different woman! It's a sort of sidebar article that currently shares the same web page.

My bad. Completely. Maybe THAT young woman should talk to Elon Musk - maybe she can get paid for an endorsement.

I still don't think people get to indulge in endless lattes and baguettes in Paris (or even Michigan) as a reward for racking up debt of $131K -and then move on to the fabled, mysterious East. Maybe it's envy or bitterness in old age but --- I'm sticking with it. She seems to have a complete disconnect - between her lifestyle and her financial situation. I'm sure that in her private world -- the debt hardly exists - if at all. And I'm starting to wonder - if the jobs that would enable her to pay this --- will ever materialize. I think she may stay in her private "travel world" forever, as an escape. Such a fun world, fantasies somehow coming true, it's impossible to give up.

Looks more like a serious break with reality, to me. But I'm not a psychology professional. I think maybe she should see a real one.

Johann - who has NEVER had a latte - not even ONE - in his entire 80 years of life, so far. :)

Yeah - a problem for Hayley - the "latte lady" from Paris and Kalamazoo we've been discussing, in this thread. She owes $131,000 for her two Master's degrees. But never fear - she'll do all right, back home with Mom and Dad.

She said so: "My dad, without speaking to my mother first, agreed to let me pay rent in chocolate chip cookies. And probably I'll have to help them paint their house. I think that's sort of the other half of the chocolate chip cookie rent."

Maybe this tenuous grip on reality runs in the family... and her parents inherited it from their daughter.
