Truss to step down after she was forced to junk most of her economic programme which when delivered on Sept. 23 sent the pound and government bond markets tumbling.
    Soaring Inflation, energy prices.

Yeah, right. Inflation -- energy prices, all her fault, right? Wouldn't have happened without her in the PM's office? Sure... blame Liz. Not any of BoJo's legacy? If there had to be a new PM every time the Pound tanks - they'd need a revolving door on 10 Downing Street. This sucks.

I have things in my fridge that have been there longer than Truss lasted as Prime Minister.

When I was a kid in UK - we didn't HAVE a fridge. No TV. No phone. Nor did we have central heating. Coal fireplaces in every room. Out-houses in North London. Unwrapped, unsliced bread delivered on your doorstep. A wonder there wasn't plague or cholera.

We had ALL that - plus my Dad had a car - very quickly, after we got here. There were 52 (!) kids in my class, the year I left England. Only 2 of those families had cars.

With all that going on - nobody forced PM Clement Attlee to resign. He came to the leadership of an almost-bankrupt country in 1945 and was PM for six years. His party was narrowly defeated in 1951, and he continued to serve as Labour Party leader. He was later elevated to the House of Lords.

Considerable food rationing was still going in UK when I left in 1952. And rationing over there meant something far different from what it meant during wartime in North America. It was very, very strict indeed, e.g. one egg per person, per week. The last of it - meat rationing - ended in 1953, eight years after WW2.

Even with all of Brexit and BoJo-bungling, I still think Brits have a far better lot, on average, today, than they did back then. (But no - I'm not going back.) I'm sorry to see Ms. Truss compelled to leave office. As I see it, that's not a good sign -- of anything.

Truly, I don't understand, is this is a cover up of something that forced the PM to resign.
Economic changes, programs are not expected to have significant immediate results, time is needed. Now if couple of years passed then there can be questions asked or critique of programs etc
But it appears her party was going to vote her out so she resigned.
She was a strong supporter of Ukraine and Russians hated her.
So I assume their media is enjoing the new propaganda materials and have an opportunity to ridicule the West.

Well, I would - but did someone ask me?

You would nominate BoJo? Seriously? Or do you mean you'd run for party leader? Either way - I think you have to be a Brit.

Me, nominating BoJo? Nope, won't happen. - For some odd reasons, nobody asked me for some expertise from outside GB; but maybe they could need some.
I mean, dammit! They had to pay even higher interests for their loans than ITALY!! A sack of potatoes would probably have done a better job there!

UK sounds a lot like the U.S.

    Conservative cut taxes

    Liberal raise taxes

    NONE OF THEM CUT SPENDING

That's why there is a populist revolt happening against these elitist politicians not only happening in the U.S. but all over the world.

Although Trump was supposedly a populist alternative to "elitist politicians" and he too signed a tax cut (for some) that didn't cut spending. And don't blame The Swamp™, because he had veto power and didn't use it.

Congress doesn't want to put a bill that cuts spending because they think it would be political suicide. When was the last time you saw any person in congress list specific programs they want to cut?

Congress has no term limits, and they do whatever it takes to keep getting reelected, which is often misaligned with the people they represent and the country's interests.

So barring a balanced budget constitutional amendment, it won't be easy to balance the budget.

Personally, I think it's time for desperate measures. Bribe congress with a large cash payment of $2 million each if they balance the budget through a bill passed by congress, and you'll see them singing like a carnary about all the wasteful programs we need to cut in order to balance the budget.

That's simply not true. I don't know WHERE you get this!! Spending cuts are constantly in the UK news. I hear a lot about what that's meant for the NHS (National Health Service.) You need to read up on this. Something here: https://www.bmj.com/content/379/bmj.o2519
