I hit a paywall so here's an alternative site for anyone with the same problem https://www.chronicle.com/article/HobartWilliam-Smith/243120
There must be more to this story:In March, The Chronicle first reported that Vincent’s dissertation appeared to copy at least one passage from another work without citation.
Here's that Chronicle article. http://tinyurl.com/y99fcdlk As is so often the case in such matters, the now-ex-president's defenders, including the chair of the college Board of Trustees, make much of the fact that the allegations (which apparently cited quite a few instances of plagiarism) were "anonymous." Well, semi-anonymous, in that they apparently came from a working email address. Does that really matter if the allegations turn out to be true? Here at the Deep Throat Institute of Allegation Studies, we think not.
I think there have been times in the past where people have been allowed to correct the "mistake" made in their dissertation and then everyone just goes about their business. The fact that this did not happen in this case suggests to me that there was something else going on under the surface.
