There is a story this week in the New Orleans Times-Picayune about the trouble James (Tom) Kirk is having finding a job in the distance learning field, following his release from prison for running LaSalle. He acknowledges that he is helping out Bienville University. It was also interesting to read that Bienville has a 2-year "exemption" from the state of Louisiana on the basis of their alleged application to two national accreditors -- but the reporter determined that neither accreditor had ever heard of them. One wonders what, if anything, Louisiana intends to do about this. The story is at: http://www.nola.com/news/t-p/frontpage/index.ssf?/newsstory/kirk24.html
For history buffs, Kirk was also involved with Southland University and the University of San Gabriel Law School. The FBI raided the former and one wonders if the latter ever even existed. Rich Douglas
The U. of San Gabriel Valley was once approved for graduates to take the California Bar. Kirk claimed he earned his law degree there. The owner of USGV claimed Kirk was not a graduate, but absconded with a stack of blank diplomas (and the owner's wife). But said owner was shortly-after disbarred for other matters entirely, so one is never quite certain whom to believe.
The article says he has an 18 month old daughter. A previous article stated he was released from prison in 2000. Unless my math is off, his prison time must not have been all that bad.
Damn. I read it and didn't see that! LOL! Rich Douglas, who worked in prisons for 3 years and should know better.
James T. Kirk? Going where no one has gone before! You have got to be kidding!?!? ------------------ M. C. (Mike) Albrecht, PE
