I just wanted to wish all those who celebrate Thanksgiving to have a happy & safe holiday. In spite of the last couple of months, we still have a lot to be thankful for in life. I have to work a HS football game in the morning, then it's off to the in-laws to eat turkey until I explode! Bruce
Eating turkey till you bust one side of the globe, and blowing innocent people to bits the other side of the globe ... and you Americans think that Assies are wierd! Peter French
Well Peter, when an enemy slaughters 5,000+ of our innocent citizens, we (the United States) have the capability and the balls to respond. If you want to characterize that as "blowing innocent people to bits the other side of the globe", then have at it. Just remember that if it wasn't for the United States, Australia would now be a Japanese Prefecture. In your case (and I mean this towards no other Australians), your spelling of "Assies" is very appropriate. BTW, I know it's difficult for you to deal with the fact that I exposed you as previously claiming a degree mill doctorate. Deal with it. There is no need for you to try to regain credibility by maligning my country, especially considering what we're going through. Bruce
If I ran a forum, I think I'd adopt a structure derived from the "Survivor" TV shows. Once a week, there would be a list of that week's posters, and a way to vote "Yay" or "Nay." If the ratio of 'no' to 'yes' is 10 to 1 or greater, they are voted off the island. Just thinking.
What are you eating whilst sitting on your hands, Peter? Ass? Muslim schoolbus stoned in Brisbane Source: AAP|Published: Thursday September 13, 12:53 PM A schoolbus packed with Islamic children in Brisbane has been stoned in the wake of the terrorist attacks in the US. Mr Downer said a 66-year-old Sydney man, a 62-year-old Sydney woman and another Australian, a Queenslander, had died in the terrorist attacks. (more: http://www.smh.com.au/breaking/2001/09/13/FFXG2C0GJRC.html) Asia Pacific toll: http://news.bbc.co.uk/low/english/world/asia-pacific/newsid_1542000/1542522.stm : Australia: Three Australians have been confirmed dead and another 20 are feared "almost certainly dead" according to the Department of Foreign Affairs. A spokeswoman said: "52 Australians dead in the attack would be the worst case scenario." Bangladesh: At least 50 Bangladeshis are reported dead, although there are no details as yet. Bangladeshi newspaper reports suggested up to 200 nationals were working in the vicinity of the World Trade Center, many of whom were employed by restaurants in the towers. Cambodia: About 20 Cambodian nationals are missing following the attacks. China: China now says only two of its nationals have definitely died and one person is missing. Hong Kong: authorities say 19 nationals have been reported missing. India: At least 40 Indians are reported missing. A government spokeswoman said she could not give an accurate estimate of how many Indians worked in the World Trade Center. Indonesia: One Indonesian man, Eric Samadikun Hartono, 20, has been confirmed killed. Mr Hartono was a passenger on board American flight 11. It is not clear how many more Indonesians worked in and around the World Trade Center Japan Japan: The Japanese Government said on Thursday that 22 of its nationals were missing. New Zealand: One New Zealander has so far been confirmed dead. Alan Beavan, 49, was on United flight 93. Pakistan: Only one Pakistani has been confirmed dead in the attacks but 15 others have been reported injured, some of them seriously. Twenty people are reported missing. The Philippines: Two Filipinos have been confirmed killed and 115 missing. South Korea: Three South Koreans have been confirmed dead and another 15 are missing. Taiwan: The Taiwanese Foreign Ministry said nine nationals have been reported missing in the World Trade Center. Five Taiwanese banks had branch offices in the building. Thailand: Two Thai nationals who worked for private companies are reported missing. Another 17 staff working for government agencies located in the Trade Center remain unaccounted for. (Defence Minister, Peter) Reith: President Bush did make quite a point of the fact that he will treat without discrimination not only those who are terrorists but those who harbour terrorists. And obviously that is giving rise to a lot of speculation. I think all we can say at this stage from an Australian perspective as the Prime Minister said we stand shoulder to shoulder with the US in trying to deal with these horrific acts of terrorism. Obviously as at this point even though this morning we have got some reports coming in from the US over the TV as to action that they are taking to track down the perpetrators of this. But until we have got a clear idea of who, why, what and when etc then obviously you know those are all issues for us yet to face. I second this. Cheers, ------------------ Tom Head www.tomhead.net co-author, Bears' Guide to the Best Education Degrees by Distance Learning (Ten Speed Press) co-author, Get Your IT Degree and Get Ahead (Osborne/McGraw-Hill)
We have a saying - '...come in spinner...' You exposed me? What a joke! You have exposed youreself Bruce as having no snese of humour, and taking yourself far too seriously - well i suppose someone has to as i surely don't. Peter
Peter, your tired act of saying inflammatory things and then trying to pass it off as humor doesn't cut it anymore. And you may be right about me not exposing you, since you don't have the stones to actually admit that you have a degree mill doctorate. Which shouldn't really surprise me. Bruce
Hi Peter, Bruce obviously doesn't know that the first battle defeat the Japanese Army suffered in WW2 was at the hands of the Australians. And that's why they got no further. Cheers, Neil
And apparently you don't know about the rest of WWII. Hint: The Americans won. If not, your previous message would have been in Japanese. Speaking of history, this might be a first for the board....someone with a joke of a doctorate degree coming to the defense of someone with the same. BTW Neil, I notice you didn't respond to my clarification of Century University in the "first time here" thread. You know, the one where you complained about me having Administrator status because I pointed out the shortcomings of your alma mater. Just in case you do want to respond, the direct link is: http://www.degreeinfo.com/ubb/Forum1/HTML/002081.html I won't hold my breath. Bruce
Oh, come now, Bruce. There was *some* help from the Aussies. They did an excellent job of spotting Japanese planes and fleets for U.S. forces to destroy. A contribution like that, IMHO, warrants at least a MA from Century (in Defense Studies, maybe?) for surviving Coastwatchers. Whaddya say, Neil? Can the skids be greased?
Bruce wears a badge - his view is superior and offical - you MUST respect that ) Of course he thinks that America won the war, he also thinks that it is the centre of the universe. Well, he has a lot of company! Peter French
Peter....what is it about me being a police officer that fascinates you? I mention it in my profile, but I've hardly ever mentioned it on the board. Yet, you continually raise the issue. An authority hangup? I'm really curious. As for WWII, yes, the United States did win the war. I know that's not PC to say in this new century for fear of offending someone, but it's true, and we have a few thousand of our soldiers laying in French graves to underline the point. Now, I don't believe for a second that the US is the center of the universe. As a matter of fact, I wish that everyone else would stop thinking that. I see enough homelessness & hungry kids that if I was running things, *all* foreign aid would stop immediately until we take care of our own. Yes Peter, that means Australia also. Kiss goodbye that mutual defense treaty we have that costs the US millions every year. You know, the treaty that allows you to have a standing army of about 100,000 soldiers. No need for any more when Big Brother United States will back you up, right? If there is anything worse than an ungrateful ally, it's an ungrateful ally with a short memory. Oh, let me save you the trouble Peter...this was all a joke, and we don't get your sense of humor, right? Bruce
He lives on a former penal colony. You're the Man, the Screw, the Jailkeep, the Inquisitor. (I love Australia and hope this chestnut does not ban me from someday visiting the colony...I mean the country. )
Persuasive. I'll have to cite you as precendent authority when somebody questions MY views. But I don't think Bruce's profession has the first thing to do with his views, nor their merit. If we scroll back, a reference to "blowing innocent people to bits halfway across the globe" was made. I think the issue here is not Bruce's occupation, mine, or yours; it's whether or not your remark on par with, say, a Holocaust joke in Tel Aviv. What *is* your hangup with law enforcement, anyhow?
Glad that you have last seen daylight. For a moment I tought that it would never happen... Peter French
...and my best wishes to the board or is it "The Board" (?) as leave to take up my new senior position in HE. Partaking in this ng despite my effective 'cage-rattling' ability, will not sit well with my peers or staff, who do see the amusement of it at this stage, but life does move on, even for 57 year old intellectual retards. I leave you in good hands. Bruce now has a sense of humour, George will answer any 'proper' questions realting to DE/DL in HE in Oz, Sheila will assist with the setting up of any new 'fringe' ventures, and Neil will stick up the present fringe operations. Some of you, I will be 'watching over' but you will be in good hands and treated fairly if not favourably. Peter French Melbourne, Perth and Vancouver
Best of luck to you, Peter. I understand your decision to drop out of the forum -- especially when I remember the Max Jackson (Sarasota) situation of a few years ago. And you are certainly a much more inflammatory character here than Max ever was on the old AED! Totsiens en mooi bly.
Yes, the Max Jackson incident. Poor guy. He suffered somewhat due to a nut case that decided to make life difficult. North
