    Oxpecker:

I do not know if you have a CIS degree, but if not you should be given an honorary CIS degree for all the information you find.

    Impressed,

That would be me. I was told by Debra Loeffler, Walden’s Human Resources Representative, that no such person is listed as a faculty member. She did caution, however, that Dr. Harris might be a new hire. She told me that she would look into it and call me back. I did not want to post this information on this forum until I had received a definitive answer.

I never claimed to Michael, instead I gave Walden my real name and phone number. It is possible, however, that someone else may have called as well.

This is highly unlikely as the chair of the Psychology program is not in today and won’t be in until August 6th. But, then again, you knew that, didn’t you? And it wasn’t hard to guess that someone on this forum would call your bluff about being an Adjunct Professor for Walden. Is that why you, shortly after your first few posts, modified your signature line to delete the reference to Walden?

No, I don’t. There is no such legal term as "tortuous" (perhaps there should be?) There is, however, the term "tortious", meaning related to a tort.

However, speaking of legal hot water, both the Human Resource Department and Dr. Denise M. DeZolt, Psychology Program Faculty Mentor for Walden University are incensed that you are falsely claiming to being affiliated with Walden University. Yes, I just spoke with both of them, and they never heard of Regina Harris. They were quite insistent, however, that I forward as much information about your claims as possible; it seems they want to put a stop to them right away.

You will notice, however, that she is referred to as Ms. while her colleagues with legitimate doctorates are listed as Dr.. It seems that Walden knows exactly what they are doing.

When you state that your profile is being processed, don’t you really mean that you haven’t been hired yet?

  5. Can anybody point to a post on this board-- of any age, on any topic-- where a Berne graduate posted in his/her true identity?

Legal entrapment is when law enforcement entices someone into doing something that they normally wouldn't do. It doesn't apply in this situation since Dr. John Bear is not a law officer.

BTW, accusing someone of telling other people to lie might be a torturous offense, assuming that someone reads it that is tortured by the news, of course.

Do you believe that the General Accounting Office is or is not part of the United States government?

    Re: John Bear's Comment

Makes you wonder why she would post this here instead of sending him e-mail. And I bet the real Robyn Stewart can spell "special".

Sheesh, how many employees does Berne have and do they now all have Degreeinfo accounts?

Of course I have, being the responsible sort I am, left a message on Robyn Stewart's answering machine at GAO.

As it happens, the GAO is a co-presenter, along with OPM (Office of Personnel Management) of the big workshop on degree mills that will be held for many hundreds of senior government HR and personnel people from all major departments in Washington on August 12 and 13.

As mentioned elsewhere, the main presenters* at this event will be my co-author (on a forthcoming book on diploma mills) Allen Ezell and yours truly.

For a DL paper, I have just spent the last 4 days reading stuff by a dead Austrian with an odd mustache. (No, definitely NOT Stefan Zweig, olov hasholom.) Boy did I need something funny about now. This thread is it! Multumesc foarte mult, guys!

Perhaps the GAO would like to make sure that some of the more advanced techniques that less than wonderful schools are now employing are covered (e.g., Liberia, St. Kitts, Nevis)?

Of course, I'm assuming that this is the GAO that is part of the United States government.

I'm pleased to hear that from an upstanding adjunct professor from Walden University. <snicker>

mringer: " I have never stated that Berne is a degree mill, though others have, I just question the right of The MOE of ST Kitts and Nevis to say a school is accredited, this is based on the fact that they don't have a public school system of their own, and the fact that the school is not recognized by the University of the West Indies as most schools of that region are. Part of my conclusion that the school should not be considered RA is based on the fact that several of the LARGER RA institutions in the US will not consider credit from Berne or other schools from St. Kitts and Nevis.

Cehi: Very interesting. Hmnnn. Thank you.

    **Regina**,

No one here really knows about the quality of what Berne puts out in terms of a graduate. Maybe you have a point about residencies (RA schools do similar) and Capella (??) waived PhD residency for a dude in prison. Apparently, one NACES member will give equivalency.

    Fine......

Lets look at some other issues. Apparently Berne has not made much effort to clean up the issue with the ODA (Oregon) in spite of repeated efforts by Contreras to get some idea of the evaluation that Berne underwent. As I understand it.......nothing of any consequence was provided. If it were able to be would Berne not ensure it was in order to be taken off a list of institutions whose degrees cannot be used in Oregon.

At least one other Naces members will not give Berne equivalency for reasons already posted here before (no UWI recognition, etc).

Berne went from N. Hampshire to locate themselves on a small...small island with NO public university system of its own and receive accreditation from the island govt. What ever process it underwent is not provided to Oregon.

Why is it not pursuing RA (NCU did).

18,000 with travel for a PhD from a school with these issues  (with probable limited utility and the possibility for  would 7,000 not be more reasonable).

John: I think it is just for top HR people from federal departments. 400 so far signed up. I know some media and some people from the Dept of Ed and from AACRAO have asked to go, but I don't know the outcome. Pretty sure the general public is not included. Kathy Dilaman, an executive in the Investigative Services branch of OPM, is in charge. I'll keep you posted.

I go away for a day and this thread goes wild. My absence sure stimulates dialog.

Berne grads sure are agressive about their poorly recognized degrees. Or are we sure these all aren't the same 2 well known ones in different guises. Rich's friends?
