Even in rabbinical studies they are aware of diploma mills.

Any way here is a link to accredited DL judaism academic education
to persons who want to earn RA degrees in judaism

Did Lerner just make a not-so-subtle reference to Uncle Janko as a "Romanian troll" at the end of his incomprehensible post? Lerner, the quintessential troll, has again shown his true colors.

    Wha.. what the...? [sigh]

What is this thread about? I mean really?

Why do I get a faint antisemitic hit off the thread-starting post, just generally?

And it's a surprise to the thread-starter that diploma mills are present in nearlly all fields of study... including rabbinical? Or, worse, is the thread-starter inferring that jews have a blind spot for diploma mills which offer rabbinical studies? I'm confused.

Rabbi Michael Lerner, who has done nothing here -- or to anyone here -- to deserve so much as a mention here is, I'm sure, so mentioned simply as a play of his last name against the thread-starter's username... which, as plays on names go, is entertaining, I'll admit; but username Lerner is neither Rabbi Lerner, nor a Rabbi... nor do I understand why Lerner thinks anyone would ever have reason to think that he is.

And to what "Romanian troll" is the thread-starter referring?

Tit for tat. If people here want Lerner off the tit then they'll have to implore others to get off the tat.

If you want to. Have you considered that our Lerner might be Jewish?

I'll get off the tat as soon as you can tell me what "tat" is and where I can trade it in for the other stuff. :D

Read what Lerner wrote. His was a reply to Janko and not a gratuitous slap.

Well, obviously I don't want to. Who would want for someone to be antisemitic... if that's, in fact, what it even was? (a rhetorical question)

Long ago. Doesn't change the faint, brief whiff that the thread-starting post gave me... rightly or wrongly. If it's a wrong whiff, so be it. I was just going by my initial, visceral reaction.

As for the whole tit-fo-tat thing, is that what we're talking about, here: Lerner v. Janko? Is Janko the "Romanian troll" in this case?

Could Lerner please answer that one?

I was at what is called brith - or circumcision and the mohel - or traditional rabbi that is performing such a ceremony/surgery performed his work swiftly, the grandfather mentioned that the Mohel had real and impressive credentials.

I guess in our days imagine a circumcision performed by mohel who got his credential from on line diploma mill.

Anyway gentleman a had one too many at the celebration and was
under influence when I posted last nights post.

I was called Terospoler troll by another person here couple of times, Terospol today what Romania was not so long ego.

It's about a website discussing how one becomes a rabbi, that starts out:

Let me speak for mainstream Rabbinical training, excluding the possibility of "private" ordination, phony "diploma mills," and a variety of marginal programs.

    http://judaism.about.com/library/3_askrabbi_c/bl_rabbi.htm

    I think that's just you.

Degreeinfo has discussed questionable Christian schools ad-nauseum. (You've started threads about them.) We have talked about ordination mills and peculiar little denominations. We've talked about religious exemptions and curtain rods.

Lerner appears to be Jewish and it interested him that the same issues arise in Judaism as well.

    Yes.

I'm not sure if it surprised him. Maybe it did. But it interested both him and me. I don't think that either of us deserves a flaming for that.

Don't worry, despite the Jewish competition, the prize for questionable seminaries is safely in Christian hands.

More seriously, it's interesting sociologically to notice how the incidence of phony seminaries is related to the institutional structure of denominations.

The Roman Catholics run an organizationally tight ship and you rarely if ever see phony Catholic seminaries. But the Protestant ranks are teeming with them, particularly those denominational groupings that have very loose hierarchical structures and lots of store-front congregations and local church ordinations.

That in turn has got me interested in how Jewish congregations are structured and organized.

Gimme a break... The text that Lerner linked to was written by a "Rabbi Lerner". (In this case Barry Lerner.) Our Lerner was just telling us that he wasn't the author.

Barry Lerner gives us an interesting seven point list of what good Jewish rabbinical education should include. Given all the Degreeinfo talk about what Christian religious programs should include, a Jewish view on the analogous question is interesting in itself.

Well, thanks for clearing that up. There has been a lot of speculation about Lerner's origins for reasons I can't fathom but Lerner's unequivocal statement should put that issue to rest. I'd be happy if he would just reduce the misspellings and grammatical errors. BTW, I loved NikolasHorthy's post:

That is my second favorite Lerner-related post after the one in which Uncle Janko called Lerner a
    "poltroon." :D

Anyone who read my posts knows that I was born in Ukraine
    and attended university in Prednistorve.
My father is from Romania was born there so half of the family speaks Romanian and many relatives still reside in Moldavia, Romania, Hungary.

So the accusation are baseless and ridiculous.

The new member that called me names may be also a Romanian Troll or Moldavian Troll. These things never stopped me.

I'm glad the readers can see who some posters really are.
