Are you going through the Teacher Orientation/training right now? If so, I am too! I just attended the live meeting about it and will be going through the the 2 classes the next 4 weeks. Really would love to hear from those who have been through it before.

I must say I am shocked at some of the papers I've gotten. I don't see how some of these people ever got out of high school, and yet here they are in college!

Someone I spoke to about this said maybe it's because for-profits will take anyone with a pulse.

 

It isn't just for profits. Many community colleges have open enrollment. If you can show up for class, and either pay or qualify for financial aid, then you can attend.

 

I'm curious about how you can correct papers online. How does that work? Does their software allow you to make marks on their papers,etc.?

 

They submit papers in MS Word format (this is one variation). YOu open it, and leave comments, either with the comment function or track changes. Then send it back to them.

If your school uses something like turnitin.com, then there are options for grading within turnitin.

Not a big deal, really.

I had to learn the technology, but after I did, it's not difficult. It is more time-consuming, though, than the old-fashioned way, imo.

 

It depends, in my experience. If you are using turnitin grademark, it doesn't take long at all. Most comments are already saved in a list, you click on the one that fits, place it where it goes, then move on. If there is some unique thing to address, you can do it type it in. A paper in grademark takes about 5 minutes or so total for me.

If I am using bubble comments (I hate track changes), then it might add a few minutes. It depends on the assignment, and what is being graded on that assignment. I find my times tend to be pretty comparable to the old-fashioned way.

But I have been doing it a pretty long time, too. It did take me longer until I got the hang of it.

 

Yes, I hope as I get used to it, I'll get faster at it. This is a must, considering how large my classes are.
