If I was planning on earning a PhD in a humanities subject area with the goal being to teach at the college level then I would also plan on packing a bag and moving out of the USA.

Did you see the little video at the bottom? 10 things they don't talk about at graduation- they must have attended one of my presentations, 9 of those are on "my" list that I present! Hummm.... :)

You might have a case for copyright infringement. Go to the thread about the on-line ABA approved JD and enroll, wait 4 years, then pass the bar, and sue them.

I do lots of speaking about the topic homeschooling for college credit as well as to promote my book Homeschooling for College Credit. It could be from anywhere over the past 5 years. It doesn't matter, I'm just making conversation.

I think academics need to begin facing a new reality. It isn't just about fewer job openings. It's also about the possibility of established colleges and universities shutting their doors, being purchased by private companies or shutting down specific departments.

Tenure doesn't seem to represent the same sort of job security it seems to imply.

Agreed. Plus the injection of technology means that fewer faculty are needed to do the job. If you previously offered 10 sections of a course and needed 2 professors to do that, you can now offer 10 sections but put half online and use streaming lecture to hit the half that aren't butt in seat. Furthermore, you can link campuses and use that same video stream to reach another 10, 20, 30 sections- this year and next. I know technology won't replace professors, but I do think it reduces the need to increase faculty count.

You may be interested in an essay in today's InsideHighEd about the cultural divide between traditional faculty members and the educational technology industry.
