After much searching and inquiring I have decided on Argosy's DBA program and have actually started the program this past semester in Orange County. I will keep the board informed on the program and how I am progressing.

    Thanks,
    Glenn

Glen, congrats to you and good luck with your DBA studies.

Now, for this thread would you please let everyone know about your entry to the program. Where did you get that Masters and in what specialty?

Was the entry to the Arogosy DBA difficult (time & what you had to produce), what does your program look likeand last but not least..the money thing and when do you expect to finish?.

    Cheers.

Argosy seems to offer the most affordable DL DBA. The program also offers specialties on the contrary of some programs like the PhD from Touro that is a general PhD. You also pay as you go (per credit) instead of a flat semester fee like Capella.

Having a specialty in the already saturated DBA market is a big plus. If you look in the job ads, most universities are asking for DBAs in particular fields like accounting or finance and not the typical generalist DBA.

Re: Are You Sure about Capella?

Capella charges by the quarter for Doctoral programs, and per-credit for Master's & certificate programs. I e-mailed them awhile back and asked if one could do a Doctoral program on a per-credit tuition basis, and was given an emphatic "no". There was no reason given (other than "it's not possible"), but I think we can all hazard a guess...........

Argosy is a very good choice. I just completed my first intersession at the Sarasota Campus and it was GREAT.

I was very impressed with the professors and the student population. Just in my class, I had (3) three LT. Majors, V.P. for a major corporation, and professors from other well-known Universities. It was a very good experience and I really enjoyed the networking.

    DBA

I am nearing the end of my comps on my Capella PhD. I expect to be ABD by end of year.

I recently found out about the Heriot-Watt DBA. (www.edinburghdba.com)

It looks totally cool, and no doubt I'll be tempted to do that too after I finish the Capella program.

Re: Re: Are You Sure about Capella?

Bruce, I think you have your information wrong.

First, the Psych. 2002 catalog says on p.48 under "Tuition" that "Learners pay tuition on a course-by-course basis."
I also went to the Capella site and found the following. Of course, if the school of business is structured differently then I would not know... but I would think their fees are standardized accross the board.

    Bruce,

I guess both of us are not quite correct. I just found out that the Capella Business school's tuition is structured differently from the school of psychology.

In the School of psychology you pay by course on the doctoral level.

In the School of business you pay by the quarter in the doctoral program.

For example, at the Capella site http://www.capella.edu/aspscripts/schools/business/tuition.asp
    you see:

    J.R.,

Entry into the program at Argosy was painless. I turned in my application, letters of recommendation, transcripts and personal statement than attended a day of orientation. I have a MBA in Finance so the DBA was a perfect fit. I received 12 units of transfer credit so the program will only be 48 units. Basically, I only need to take 11 courses plus the dissertation.

My GI Bill should cover the cost over time and I hope to finish in about 2 -3 years.

Any idea how much this program costs? The site does not have this information yet (as of today).

    Thanks.

Just curious, why do you need a Ph.D. and a DBA?

    Why a DBA?

    Actually-

Its not needed at all. It is just tempting for two reasons.

#1-from the EBS website, the content appears to be unique--so its interesting to me.

#2-I still have great memories from my EBS MBA experience.
