Several sources are reporting that the wildly popular and successful young singer has been found dead in her apartment. There is no official announcement about the cause of death, but many people agree with me that it is a no-brainer. Of course, we should probably wait until the autopsy comes out before we rush to judgment, but it would come to nobody's surprise if her life of hard partying and addiction played the primary role.

Celebrities dying young of unnatural causes has happened since the very beginning of the existence of young celebrities. However- is it just me- or is this becoming an epidemic?

    Very gifted. Gone too soon.

I don't think it's an epidemic. I think this 'tortured soul' is more common in the arts, both performing and fine arts. The creativity necessary for their craft often seems tied to their mental state, which, many times, is not really healthy. Manic depression/bi-polar disorder is a b*tch, and unfortunately, it got the best of another one. It also claimed a former student of mine a few years back - father of two beautiful little girls. So sad. He didn't want to die, but he just couldn't go on living. For many in this situation life is just too, too hard.

I wish we would take mental health more seriously in our Western culture, put more research $$ into it, have the resources available for the 20+% of the population affected. Feel like we're letting people down (first hand experience talking here).

We'll never know (if it proves to be a drug overdose) if it was intentional or accidental. But we do know Amy was simply not well.

I believe she has now found the peace she just could not find in living.
I will miss her voice, her gift.
    Gone too soon, too soon.

    :iagree:

I was not a fan of hers, but of course, that is inconsequential.

She may have had problems, and have made more bad decisions than most of us, but she does not deserve this end.

A tragedy, surely, but no more so than a thousand other similar deaths that for lack of celebrity didn't make the same day's news.

The body is a pretty straight forward, cause/effect machine. Not sure what else to say.

Another member for the 27 club. Not sure of how great of a singer she was, but there are lots of media people saying she was a great singer so that must make it so.

Sad she died so young, well sad for her family at least. I know I'm getting sick of the rehab jokes on Facebook.

I never heard of Amy Winehouse! That is how much I know about celebrities! Her music must not be the kind I listen to.

But, seriously, it is always sad when someone dies. Especially when someone's life is cut short so young. And with the possible drugs and mental problems, too. Really sad.
