I'm a current AMU grad student, though not in education.

I would say that overall, it's a good school.

How would you compare AMU to World College.

What is the difference in the way you study, take proctored exams etc.

    Thanks

What is your goal? If you are pursuing K-12 licensure, you need to make sure that the program works for your state.

As StefanM has cautioned, if initial K-12 licensure is in line with your graduate education degree endeavor, NCATE or TEAC programmatic accreditation will be required by many, if not most, state education department licensure boards as regards K-12 teacher preparation. I’m unsure as to whether or not AMU or APU have accreditation from either.

Note: NCATE and TEAC are in the process of a 2-year merger /consolidation into a new single accreditor of teacher preparation programs. CAEP (Council for the Accreditation for Educator Preparation) will be the new ‘single’ accreditation agency.

Upon searching both the NCATE and TEAC websites for accredited education /teacher preparation programs … it appears that AMU /APU do not have programmatic accreditation in this area. This could be an issue within your state [if] K-12 degree /program recognition (regarding certification) is a part of your further educational goal (?).

Lerner, did you attend World College? CIE/WC courses are correspondence based, so you don't interact with other students, and you study when you want to, and complete lessons at your own speed. The only real online component is the e-grade system for submitting lessons. There were a few proctored exams.

AMU is closer to a traditional university, but fully online and with accelerated 8-week courses. There is plenty of opportunity to interact with other students, inside and (if they choose) outside of the classroom. As with a traditional school, the exams and assignments are subject to deadlines; I have not had any proctored exams at all, but have written lots of papers. One thing that sets AMU apart from other online schools is the excellent faculty. In the Space Studies program, I've had instructors ranging from military officers, to astronauts, to pilots and NSA engineers. So they bring a lot of real world experience (not just degrees) into the classroom.
