    Greetings all,
I am new to this group and would like your feedback regarding All But Dissertation (ABD) issues, situations and concerns that you may have. I was in an ABD situation and found an accredited institution of higher learning that has allowed me to go from ABD to their PhD program. I have a survey for those who would like to take it.
https://www.surveymonkey.com/dashboard/ (Links to an external site.)
The degree will be a Ed.D. I would also like to know if anyone is in an ABD situation, and if so, what are your decisions regarding continuing with the completion of your degree? I have researched several institutions and can offer some help if needed. Thank you all in advance and I am looking forward to hearing from you all soon. Continued success in all that you do!

I don't understand what the purpose of a survey would be, and how you would use the results.

I am reluctant to join SurveyMonkey just to see your survey.

Having scrolled through the questions my first observation is that many/ most are geared to on-Campus students. Since this is a distance learning discussion board our members may not be the best test population for your survey. Aside from that, good luck.

Just scrolled through myself. My biggest question is where/what is "this university?"

    Greetings Mr. Foster,
Thank you for your reply. I am willing to forgo the survey and receive the opinions from anyone on this site regarding the All But Dissertation (ABD) students. The feedback will assist me with my dissertation. I am an ABD student who was given the chance to complete my degree at another university. My aim is to assist other students who are in an ABD status by either addressing their academic problems early or by referring them to a sort of ABD "boot camp" to improve their skills so that they have the ability to complete their degree. My questions to the group consist of: What are some of the reasons why students end up in an ABD status? What can institutions of higher learning do to assist ABD students? And what are some solutions to assist students in an ABD status so that they can complete their degree?
Thank you in advance for taking the time to read my reply.

    Greetings Mr Bear,
Without looking at the survey, I would like to ask the group their opinion regarding the following questions:What are some of the reasons why students end up in an ABD status? What can institutions of higher learning do to assist ABD students? And what are some solutions to assist students in an ABD status so that they can complete their degree? I will use this information to obtain a qualitative study for my dissertation. Any help will be appreciated.
    Thank you in advance,

Greetings and thank you for your response.
While I address the surveymonkey survey, I would like to ask the following questions for my qualitative analysis. Any and all help will be appreciated: What are some of the reasons why students end up in an ABD status? What can institutions of higher learning do to assist ABD students? And what are some solutions to assist students in an ABD status so that they can complete their degree?
Thank you in advance for taking the time to read my reply.

    Greetings Kizmet,
You are correct that this is a distance learning site and therefore I have requested answers to some questions that relate to ABD students who are enrolled in online programs. Any participation will be appreciated. The questions are: What are some of the reasons why students end up in an ABD status? What can institutions of higher learning do to assist ABD students? And what are some solutions to assist students in an ABD status so that they can complete their degree?
Thank you in advance for taking the time to read my reply.

    Yeah . . . what he said.

    Ahem . . . A Ph.D. program does not lead to an Ed.D.

We are delighted to welcome you to DegreeInfo. Indeed, it sounds like you may be engaged in some research that can be valuable to others in your situation. But at this point, you are an anonymous newbie, and it takes time to establish credibility around this joint.

I would suggest that the first step is to answer JBjunior's question and identify "this university." Specifically, you should identify the school at which you are pursuing your doctorate now. Believe me, no one will bite you. But it's important in this milieu to establish whether you are in a credible program, since your use of the word accredited can mean anything.

Then, and only then, can we focus any responses directly to you.

Full disclosure . . . I have been known to bite. But don't worry, I've had my shots.

The feedback will assist me with my dissertation.

I can't imagine your IRB would be very happy with the survey as presented... Or with the alternative to provide general (unanonymized) feedback in lieu of the survey.

    Greetings Steve,
Thank you for your reply, as well as the opportunity to allow me to explain my previous post. The present school is American College of Education (ACE). The offer doctoral programs which consist of a doctorate in Education as well as specialist degrees. "This university" should have been clarified in the beginning, as this was the default on "Surveymonkey". "This university" was meant to be ACE. I agree that "accredited" can mean anything in this day and age, and ACE (regionally accredited) has the following posted on their website:
"We are, and have always been, regionally accredited by The Higher Learning Commission— a federally-recognized accrediting agency. Regional accreditation ensures that an institution’s academic program meets or exceeds acceptable levels of quality and is the most recognized accreditation status for higher education entities. To receive and maintain HLC accreditation and affiliation approval, we must continuously undergo routine peer review cycles and provide proof that our programs meet or exceed HLC accreditation criteria and expectations of quality." Retrieved from https://www.ace.edu/about/accreditation.
As far as the "bite" goes, I've had my rabies shot :). I hope that this answers some of the previous questions and am looking forward to your reply.

    Good evening Jahaza,
I can imagine that they would not be pleased either. But this is not what will presented in the end, not by a long shot. Only something that was new to me and will be revised. The module asked for an anonymous survey. This is not for an actual presentation for an IRB. When the time comes, I feel confident that the information requested, and needed, for an IRB will be intact and will be presented in a professional manner. This survey was only to obtain informal information.
