My evidently understated point is, that it (ethically) shouldn't. The percentage of acceptance of DETC credentials into RA graduate programs that has been quoted the last few months is 47%. I have not a stitch of statistics to prove this, but I bet that a Unisa degree sans DETC is higher than that. I'm saying that this can change once Unisa receives accreditation. It's not that DETC accreditation is anything bad; it's how RA schools conduct themselves with regard to non-RA accreditors.

Look back at John Bear's thread, 'Clueless in Seattle,' in which he queries registrars as to the acceptability of degrees of various accreditations. A significant number said nationally (read DETC-) accredited degrees would be 'generally not acceptable.' Try transferring (non ACE evaluated)DETC credit into Regents; the answer is no without qualification, comment, or recourse.

I am not discouraging prospective students from pursuing a degree from Unisa or disparaging DETC accreditation. The caveat I'm pointing to here is one group of accreditors (albeit practically the only show in town) and their history with respect to working with all the Department of Education-recognized others in the country.

Was Bill Gate's degree regionally or DETC accredited?

Bill Gates droped out of Harvard. Which may or may not be better than graduating from a DETC accredited school.

Neither, Gates never graduated from college. Then again, neither did Alex Rodriguez, who is guaranteed a minimum of $252 million from the Texas Rangers baseball club. Good work if you can get it.
