I think, but am not certain, that this is because Cal Coast added the program after 12/2000, and California authorities no longer allow state-approved degrees as eligible for licensure except for programs already in operation before 2001.

This IS a curious situation. I went to the website and checked out the curricula. The Ph.D. curriculum does not include coursework in all of the required areas. In fact, it looks to me like its deficient in several areas while the PsyD. does in all except biological bases of behavior. Although, a course is offered in health psychology; perhaps this meets the California requirement.

Well, kids, it has now been four ays and multiple posts since Dan Kline submitted his original, "Gee, I'm so happy I"ve been accepted to Cal Coast!" item.

And the one person we have not heard from for several days is . . . Dan Kline.

One must wonder whether he is shirking from embarrassment in his closet in light of the follow-up comments in this thread. Or whether he really was a shill for Cal Coast.

C'mon, Dan, amuse us some more!

  4. Hate to be another naysayer, dude. But I have a California approved degree (B.S.- Human Services- Columbia Paciic U/ 1995, as well as others). Some things to be aware of in the fiuture:
    1) What id California once again restructures its educational paradigm (as in 1989) and decides CCU doesn't measure up? - it can be easily done.
    2) Arizona is the only state (circa 1996/ CPPVE report) that will accept a California psych licence for practice - what if Arizona changes is policy on this matter?
    3) What if there is a recession or governmental program/ managed care cutbacks in California? Where does one practice then?
    4) What if you decide to move from California for some reason because your personal life plans change and you need portable credentials?

I have got nothing personal or professional against CCU but because they are in California and state approved they are in dangerous waters and seen as "less than" USA wide. Other than that, best of luck.
P.S. You may also be cussing John Bear in a few years - why not make a sound and pragmatic decision (go RA) and you won't have to cuss Bear, California, the psych field, CCU, yourself, and whatever else.

No-charge dvice from one who has been there,
    Earon
