I'd certainly like to hear of it if you (or anyone else) can find any examples.

    Congrats!

Both schools serve different needs and populations and both do a good job for their students. Good luck in making your choice.

In my experience at NSU, no one was allowed on a DBA dissertation committee with only a masters degree. There may be an exception out there - but I doubt there many.

The famous Civil War scholar Allan Nevins earned his MA from the University of Illinois in 1914 and was DeWitt Clinton Professor of American History at Columbia University from 1928 to 1958. Oh! And he taught a generation of Ivy League-trained PhD Civil War historians.

    Re: Budget for DL program

Well, I reviewed the admissions package and determined that I'd have to go to Ft. Lauderdale for two weekends for each of four methods courses, which was not anticipated.

NSU's an excellent program, but all in as calculated before (program costs, income loss, travel and books, etc. , I'm at $73,000 in today's dollars without any financing costs of any kind. That's just writing checks. Frankly, I don't think this is high really, considering B & M schools, it's just what doctoral education costs when you have to be in a classroom alot.

If one has the jack, it's the best doctoral program going for working adults seeking truley academic placement. When compared to B & M school, it's really dirt cheap.

    Anderson's DBA

Not sure I'm following on this post. This program is a resident progam pretty much isn't it? This is from their site.

"The AU DBA IS NOT a distance-learning program. While tools of distance-learning may be used to facilitate education, the student will complete a majority of class work through a traditional classroom setting on the campus of Anderson University."

I believe that this program is of the "short residency" variety - just as Nova is. Yes, you have to be on campus - not every day of the week.

    Re: Re: Anderson's DBA

I know a few profs in the DBA program there. I took a few classes with Anderson, too. Some of the profs in the biz school go to church with me, including two from the program. If you are looking for a program with some solid Christian professors(without a Chrisitan emphasis in the class) this might be it. The mission of the school is certainly Christian based, though. I recall the cost being under 20K for the program but I might be mistaken. I imagine most will take 3-4 years to complete it if they work their butts off.

I understand that the competition to get in the program is pretty good. I heard this from a guy they rejected. They only have a May start date each year.

AU has been marketing this as an executive type program. From what the flyers had stated, you needed to take evening/weekend courses, mixed with independent study. I used to get flyers in the mail about every other week for the Falls DBA.

I would think this a costly and tough program to do if you did not live nearby. The total residency is about 9-10 weeks. I was not too interested in it because they did not have the program I was interested in.

    Re: Anderson's DBA

You may have found this information already but I read the program as short residency. If the DBA becomes ACBSP accredited then it would be even better. I anticipate that this program would be of significant content.

"Students will be expected to spend two weeks in May, one week in August and one week in January on campus during the three years of coursework. This will fulfill the residency requirements for the program. These "residency" weeks will involve intensive class time as well as presentations of student work from the previous semester. Students will be assigned both reading and written assignments before and after each of these "on campus" class sessions."

    Re: Cost!

According to my figures, at $45,000 for the doctorate, it would take you 25 years to amortize the cost at an $1800/year salary boost, so you would have to work until you're 76 years old to amortize that (this might not be so unrealistic, given the way things are going with Social Security). On the other hand, if you're insisting on age 65 retirement, that extra $1800/year could amortize a $25,000 doctorate over the next 14 years.
