A boy saw 17 doctors over 3 years for chronic pain. ChatGPT found the diagnosis https://www.yahoo.com/news/boy-saw-17-doctors-over-204224194.html 'During the COVID-19 lockdown, Courtney bought a bounce house for her two young children. Soon after, her son, Alex, then 4, began experiencing pain. “(Our nanny) started telling me, ‘I have to give him Motrin every day, or he has these gigantic meltdowns,’” Courtney, who asked not to use her last name to protect her family’s privacy, tells TODAY.com. “If he had Motrin, he was totally fine." Then Alex began chewing things, so Courtney took him to the dentist. What followed was a three-year search for the cause of Alex's increasing pain and eventually other symptoms.'
They went to a dentist, a pediatrician, an internist, a physical therapist...it was the neurologist who diagnosed the kid. Not ChatGPT.
The kid might never have gone to the neurologist if not for the mother plugging the symptoms into ChatGPT, though. I wouldn't exactly think of going to a neurologist for a kid that's not growing properly, unless the pediatrician recommended it.
I remember going to a few gastroenterologists trying to find the cause of an abdominal issue I was having. I saw these specialists in Louisiana and Pennsylvania. I even did an upper endoscopy. It took a nurse practioner in an ER to diagnose and treat me.
I always like to test these things out for myself. I recently had to go to the ER and I do have my diagnosis…. But…. I plugged in my symptoms to ChatGPT. I got the standard disclaimer to always consult with a doctor….. then it listed about five different things it could be. All were wrong, but reasonable assumptions. I added a few more details…. Another wrong but reasonable assumption. Then I asked could it be this? And it confirmed that is could be. So, sure, ChatGPT could give reasonable suggestions but it’s not always correct.
I saw an ad on social media for an investment tool that billed itself as a cross between ChatGPT and RobinHood, and I said, "That's not the sales pitch you think it is."
